1st former GB Route on sale operated by BA

Just noticed that BA is selling the route to Palma operated by BA instead of GB.

Schedule is pretty poor:

22:25 01:40 LGW to PMI BA 2708
05:40 07:00 PMI to LGW BA 2703

Guess they don't need any extra aircraft for this as it is a night time rotation. Guess I am booking EasyJet next summer or flying IB via Madrid.

Start getting used to this kind of schedule, its the shape of things to come at LGW.

The 737 fleet is slowly moving to an H24 operation, running red-eyes through the night to increase utilisation and keep hold of some of the ex GB routes.

Brutal timings.

So is CE ex-LGW just going to be something the travel companies up sell pax into ? No business pax are going to travel at those hours.

Could feature on FT as the best TP run for insomniacs.

We did a couple of CE returns to PMI this year and were hoping to do the same next - oh well, back to the drawing board :-((

Would the same crew be expected to operate the return turn-around on these flights?

Interesting development, considering GT killed this route at the end of the summer season.

... and then onto ABZ to a demanding audience of rugged oilworkers?

Naturally.

Presumably you'd get lumbered with two or three of those in a row and then a nice chunk of days off.

It's going to have to be a very good price to get anyone to do CE. Early departure in PMI means no lounge, of which the Miro lounge is very pleasant.

Other ex-GT routes, ALC and IBZ are for sale now too. Still bad timings. CE upgrade at £29 each way!!!

That's unfortunate. I was aware the route might be less tenable when the IAH routes switches to LHR in the spring. But this move will very unpopular, I'd expect.

BTW, LGW-ABZ is still listed on BA's online timetable for the 2008 summer season and Fare Explorer is still offering flights, albeit fully flex flavoured.

Some of those times look very wrong.

Possible opportunity for 2 or 3 TP runs in a 24-hour period...
