Cardiff 'Do' - Saturday 11th August 2007
After the success of the first Cardiff 'Do' last year back in March I think it is time for another!
The difficulty has been choosing dates, especially with new 'Do's' appearing almost weekly. Consequently I have taken the plunge and chosen:
Saturday 11th August 2007
Drinks: at Bar Ha!Ha! from 5pm - Alongside Cardiff Hilton.
Dinner: Juboraj Rhiwbina (North Cardiff) (Bangladesh/Indian cuisine)
Exact details will be fine tuned in the coming weeks however for now the key aspects to Focus upon are Transport and Accomodation.
Transport
Train
Personally my limited train travel experience is to London Paddington, so for those coming from the North you might have a better idea of deals, etc, than myself. However as a guide:
London Paddington to Cardiff (11th back 12th Aug) usually: STD £25 1st £50
(based on APEX return - too early to book today - will keep an eye on prices.)
Plane
Amsterdam to Cardiff on KLM: £129 incl taxes booked via expedia.co.uk
12:35 Depart Amsterdam (AMS)
Arrive Cardiff (CWL) 12:55 Sat 11-Aug
KLM 1065
13:35 Depart Cardiff (CWL)
Arrive Amsterdam (AMS) 15:55 Sun 12-Aug
KLM 1066
Edinburgh to Cardiff on BMIbaby: £65.93 incl taxes
Sat 11 Aug Flight No. WW 2004 Departs 14:30 Arrives 15:45
Sun 12 Aug Flight No. WW 2001 Departs 13:00 Arrives 14:15
Dublin to Cardiff on Aer Arann: € 146.79 EUR incl taxes (£100)
Sat 11 Aug 07 Flight RE 311 Departs: 09:30 Arrives: 10:45
Sun, 12 Aug 07 Flight RE 314 Departs: 17:10 Arrives: 18:30
Automobile
As this is my preferred method of transport, from London you are looking at £40 in Fuel return in a Diesel plus £5.10 for the Severn Bridge to enter Wales
It is 140 miles from Heathrow to Cardiff.
Those of you with bigger engines it will of course cost more.
This might be an opportunity for some of you to rent a car with Avis for 24 hours of so perhaps from Heathrow or central London?

I checked the train prices on thetrainline.com and it was coming out at £56 for a standard return and £139 for First class (worth it = not) going out around 10am on the 11th, returning around 6pm on the 12th.

The Holiday Inn looks fine to me.
Please note it is spelled Millennium Stadium before G-BOAC has a cardiac. Maybe there is a concert on that weekend near the Hilton? Enya perhaps?
See you there. Only been to Wales once before. Whole country covered in sheep .....
For those that enjoyed East Fortune, do remember there is a Concorde at Filton near Bristol, about 40 Miles away from Cardiff, and also a great museum at the Fleet Air Arm at Yeovilton.
