I will write this one into the diary!

Busaba Wardour St. gets absolutely packed during the weekends and waiting for a table can be quite a while, hence why I tend to go to the Store St. one. However a big ^ for considering somewhere other than HU, as much as I love it!

If Busaba is going to be difficult to get in to I would suggest Melati (Singaporean/Malay/Indonesian) in Great Windmill St. I think you can book -depending on how many of us there would be one of their upstairs rooms would be fine so it wouldn't matter how loud we were. The only problem is - I don't know how fast the service would be for a large group but they do serve beer -Tiger, Bintang et al

I'll look into it - but I'm not keen to go down the whole reservation path, I know how much extra work it generates from doing the mega London do, particularly if they require deposits (which they apparently do for groups of more than 8) or pre-payment (which would be required if a deposit was required). And also, if it means we don't get finished the meal till gone 9, certainly I'd prefer not to skip it.

(nonsoloinglese, you missed our foray to wagamamma's last christmas - I don't always do HBU. Last time, the majority voted to go there afterall )

I don't think you would have to book the Melati - at 6 I think you could just turn up and get tables especially if Busaba turned out to be too busy. And when I said I didn't know how long it would take to get us all served I hadn't meant 3 hours -they are usually very quick as they people go pre theatre etc. I also would hate to recommend it in case it didn't turn out to be OK. It was just as an alternative.
Wagamammas - I don't like - overpriced and overrated

I've been to Melati before and find it really good and authentic!

Is it a normaly thing for UK/London people to eat before going to drinks? I actually prefer this as I find most Australians jsut hit the pub straight away on Friday and the only food that gets in the mouth is Micky D's a like 2-3am!

And then Saturday and Sunday is a write off to recover.

Yes -we like to line our stomachs with something before we start - obviously not the after work on a Friday type. Reminds me of the quote from an ocker in a pub when light beer was first introduced in Oz -'It's ok but it takes too much of it to get drunk'

or indeed other concierge services... unfortunately, I'm too lowly paid to have anything like that, so it's all done by me

I did look at the melati menu (well found a version of it since their own website isn't working), and it does look rather nice. Consider it an option being considered

Dave, it's not a terribly normal thing, it's just a lot of us would eat anyway, since 6-8 hours of drinking can be very detrimental on an empty stomach, so by eating before the time we'd normally start drinking anyway, we just extend out our socialising time, and, for some of us anyway, increase our alcoholic capacity The other option would be to not eat around 11, go for a curry and then either carry on drinking or go home. We've certainly done that as well!

Just wondering the title of this do "detox" is a bit misleading!

The Satays at Melati are DEVINE!

It's not just americans who would like to do both dos. Thinking out loud here but it may just be possible to do both on the same weekend. Arrive SIN Friday, do the midnight food and beer crawl, back to the airport for Saturday morning flight to LHR, arrive in time for Saturday night, head back Sunday, crash on flights back, arrive home Tuesday. hmmmmm

I also don't think you should change dates. Whatever the date is some people won't be able to make it.
