More Competition!

Singapore Airllines has announced that they have asked the British government for permission to fly between Heathrow and New York. They already have the approval of the United States.
Singapore Suites vs. BA Flying Beds???

I like the competition.

Also, it's expected that they will announce that they will join the Star Alliance at its quarterly meeting on October 15.

Bloomberg.....

Er...is that why they have joined Virgin's Freeway programme? So that they could also code-share on this route?

BA should not refuse because it has through and Fifth freedom traffic rights between Singapore and Brisbane and Perth. Daily. Both of which do very well picking up Singapore traffic through.

That is exactly Singapore's rationale.

Unfortunately, it's not news. Singapore has been working on this for 10 years! The recent article is just an embarrasingly public demand by Singapore Airlines to get the British Government to live up to it's obligations. IMHO, it's doubtful Singapore will be allowed to fly to the U.S.
