Avios upgrade

I have flights on all BA metal that were booked for $ with AA. Can these be upgraded using Avios?

It depends on a lot of things. Including the class / fare bucket of the original ticket and whether the final destination is London or if you're travelling onwards. If you provide more specific information then you'll surely court more specific answers to your question.

Unfortunately not. They would need to be on a 125 ticket (i.e. BA issued).

No. You will need to use AA miles to upgrade an AA issued ticket.

All 4 segments are 001 tickets.

Non-avios regulated question...

All 4 segments are BA operated flights. I was unable to book the exact flights on BA... Only on AA. Why the difference when BA operates all of the flights?

This is a multi-city itinerary originating in Europe and traveling to the USA.

It would be helpful if you post your itinerary otherwise there's too much guess work involved.

I would have thought it would just be the website not offering it and you may have been able to purchase via the phone as we all know BA's IT quality leaves a lot to be desired...

BA would have happily sold you a ticket for that, but if it didn't show on the website then you would have need to book over the phone.

Currently showing as:

$1,698 in Y
$2,271 in W
$2,651 in J

It's AA booking, so you have one PNR with AA. AA and BA use different computer systems, so it's common that BA will see your trip as 2 separate bookings.

In that case the better answer is it’s probably highly unlikely you’ll see F avios availability anyway. It’s a possibility (and maybe you can see some now?), but if not, you’ll find that it’s irrelevant that you cannot UuA. So I wouldn't worry about not being able to use Avios. At the airport you can enquire about an AUP. Probably between $800 - $1800 from J to F.
