Adverse Weather Conditions - Thursday 28th March

Looks like there could be a fair few WEAN today - high winds expected at EGLL. And they’re expected almost perpendicular to the runway so high crosswind component. Plus a sprinkling of cumulonimbus clouds to add to the mix.

Keep an eye out on Big Jet TV for what I’m sure will be some professionally executed crabbing today. No doubt we can expect Sky News to be reporting that a plane was mere moments away from disaster

Adverse Weather Conditions - Thursday 28th March

BA1398 LHR-MAN was cancelled last night, and I was able to rebook using MMB to a later connection.

However I’ve also received the following email overnight, one for each of my two flights today (including the rebooked one):

A message from British Airways about your flight BA000 to <destination>. Thank you for choosing to fly with British Airways.

We’re expecting adverse weather conditions that may cause delays across our network. You have the option to travel on one of our earlier services on the same day, subject to availability. If you’d like to travel on an earlier flight, please go to Manage My Booking or contact us. If you’ve arranged your trip with a Travel Agency, please contact them directly.

If you have a connecting flight as part of the same ticket and there’s a chance you may miss your connection, we'll automatically rebook your onward journey. Please check ba.com/managemybooking

We look forward to welcoming you onboard soon.

British Airways
Although this unfortunately doesn’t help me much as I can’t get to my departure airport any earlier, I assume there will be other disruption today - didn’t see a thread at a quick glance so thought it best to start one.

There’s a yellow warning for wind along the south west coast today, with the general weather described as being “blustery”.

Looks like some pretty strong southerlies (ie crosswinds) coming throughout today, though they should peter out pretty significantly by the time they get to LHR.

Obviously a couple of thousand feet up will be a bit more interesting though!

Woke up to find that MrLapLap had forwarded his BA message inviting him to change to an earlier flight for his 17:55 departure from VCE to LHR to BA.
I was fast asleep when it arrived and he’s too groggy to interact now. The midday departure is too soon, he still has work that needs to get done before he can return.

Same “adverse weather” reason given.

I’ve been checking out accommodation options for tonight, at least they are reasonable when you don’t have to be out on the lagoon itself.

I have also received the same message from BA suggesting I rebook for an earlier flight. Currently booked on the LHR-ATH at 19:25. Wondering whether it would actually be advisable to rebook us onto an afternoon flight (if there is still availability), given that, as I understand it, the wind situation is supposed to improve by tonight? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated- this is our BA Holidays Easter break booking.

Also received the same message overnight! There are no earlier flights to my destination today, I am booked on the first one, and the later flight looks rather full already, as it is Easter.

Let’s see how this goes!

I’m on the way to T5 now for the 506 to LIS.

My brother is on the earlier departure and it’s taken him over 90 minutes to drop a bag and get airside…family checkin had two people working the desks, and the boarding pass scanners at North security went down for a while.

BA don’t really need weather to turn the whole thing to custard, they’re perfectly good at doing that on their own.

Email from BA telling me I can move onto another CDG service in anticipation of delays.

Fun & games ahead!

Sarah have you looked at the forecast? Strong southerly winds gusting to high 40s mph will lead to tough conditions for landing in. There will be plenty of go arounds so Air Traffic Control have restricted the number of landings per hour.

Can't watch that program without the volume totally muted. Constant inane drivel, with every flight seemingly seconds from disaster

The last time I watched with the volume up was during that storm in February 2020 when one BA flight was coming in and the commentary was something like "he's too low, he's too low, he's waaaaay too low, definite go-around coming folks" and guess what? The plane landed perfectly Ok.

I'm flying tomorrow afternoon. Any idea if this is likely to extend to then?

Still strong southerly winds tomorrow but not as strong as today. I’d expect some disruption.

We've got a SOF B2B booked for tomorrow. Fingers are firmly crossed! 😬
