canceling JAL flight booked via BA to book instead via AA

I booked a while ago (before they became available in AA) using BA DFW to HND for 62000 avios + $283USD
There's one seat available via AA for 50k + $5.60 USD

Do you think I can book via AA before canceling the BA one? The only reason is to save $. After cancelation fee, I guess I would save about $228 USD and use 50k AA instead of 62k avios

is there a risk if I book with AA before I cancel BA? the risk of canceling BA before booking AA is that it may disappear (though I guess I can put a hold)

No risk - book your AA one and then cancel the BA one.

Where would the duplicate booking be from AA's perspective? The original booking was on JL using BA Avios.

yeah, it is a JAL duplicate booking rather than AA. I ended up booking with Alaska as I didnt' have enough AA available (also messing with some bookings with AA, so they are being used up). As soon as Alaska went through, I canceled the BA one.

Spending an extra 10k AA miles to get business is a no brainer on that route. And, F for 80k (total) is definitely worth the splurge on occasion.
