Disruption at LHR this evening (2 Jan)

It’s cloudy and wet over London apparently. Sitting here fully boarded at the gate at BER. Minimum 45 mins delay before pushback. Captain says we might taxi somewhere quiet if they need the gate. And a hold on approach to LHR.

Looks like like we’re missing the last flight to MAN this evening. Any more (first world) tales of woe?

Given how strong the wind is, I’d be very pleased to sit on the ground in BER for a bit! Forecast to calm down quite a bit in a couple of hours.

Just a bit. Been raining all day, that stopped a couple of hours ago then the wind really picked up but it is now dying down.
I had a look at FR24 as I do on windy days when nothing better to do - there have been at least six go-arounds in the past couple of hours, one Cathay A350 had two attempts at landing at LHR and then diverted to Gatwick.
Fun day for all.

Living under the flight path of Heathrow, I can confirm that there were wind Gusts. Rain was minimal. Low cloud cover. I could see (from my home office window) planes approaching the Southerly runway from the east.

The planes were tilting left and right. There were many aborted landings and go arounds this afternoon.

Some made a 2nd attempt at landing and were successful.

A CX 257 A350 made 2 attempts at LHR and failed, went round for a 3rd attempt , circled over Seven Oaks and then declared a Squak 7700 and made a bee line diversion to Gatwick.

Due to continue its journey to LHR soon.

Flight deck on BA113 LHR-JFK just told us we couldn’t board at the remote stand as originally hoped because there were 55mph winds. So now departing over 2hrs late from C52 instead of A10b. But we will make up some time in the air and luckily the crew are still within hours

Its been gusting 48Kts and above at times which is above 55mph

Some air bridges are limited to 41kts or 47mph and others are a tad higher, steps have different limits again.

The Met Office weather station at LHR recorded gusts up to 69mph (60 knots) at 4pm today.

Edit.

And on top of this there is at present a darkness warning in force for the remainder of the night until dawn.

Arrived LHR. We are late as - thankfully - is 1388. No gate info so what’s a FTer to do other than head for the nearest port in a storm. Two minutes after settling with a glass of BA’s finest champagne at the N lounge (take this as my copyrighter advert for any vacancy) we find the MAN connection goes from the B gates. We run for the train as there is no time for tunneling,
I then run upstairs to B lounge to liberate two glasses of Nicky foo before descending again to the splendours of B45.
As we board the FA says “not seen anyone boarding with full glasses before”. I take it as a compliment. Mrs Exit is appalled.
Anyone wanting a PDB from LHR should take heed.😂
