BA operations and presence at Southampton (SOU)

As reported on HfP looks like BA is launching flights from Southampton to Europe on weekends over next summer.

I am surprised too, I presume the airport made BACF an offer somewhat better than MAN. Nice and Faro (with a population smaller than Southampton) maintain their reputations as being the most overly connected out-stations on BA's network.

Somewhere in the rotations there is a going to be a LCY-SOU, but will they sell it?

This is very good news and great for SOU to replace the old Flybe sunshine routes. I always thought SOU would be a great airport to laugh weekend flights from.

I assume the competition at MAN and STN was too much and BACF couldn’t compete on prices with the E190. At SOU they will be able to charge higher prices as they have a monopoly.

Using Cityflyer E190s replacing the MAN and STN programme. Seems the aircraft positioning in from Edinburgh and Berlin.

Shame no LCY SOU flights. Just full fares loaded at the moment and not yet on the APP.

interesting and much appreciated for Southampton Airport.

Looks like Berlin and Edinburgh positioners.

Am sure they’ve been given a very good sweetener by SOU to launch flights there. Should also man the potential for London based travellers to have lounge access when travelling BACF.

Routes, from HfP

It is possible (although not certain) that JMK would be a SH+ route getting 80 TP one way in club being ~1600 miles.

Berlin – starts 2nd May, Sunday out, Friday back
Edinburgh – starts 16th May, Sunday out, Friday back
Bergerac – starts 15th May, weekends plus Tuesday in peak season
Faro – starts 1st May
Florence – starts 1st May
Ibiza – starts 2nd May
Limoges – starts 15th May
Malaga – starts 1st May
Mykonos – starts 16th May
Nice – starts 15th May
Palma – starts 1st May

It is interesting that Limoges will now only be served by BA from Southampton. This must be the only destination not actually served from London but another UK airport.

Wow. I had to do a double take when I saw this. My local airport getting BA flights. Never thought I'd ever see this happen.

And to head off the inevitable question, SOU does have a lounge, it's like the NQY broom cupboard but with nicer chairs and a dummy fireplace. Pre pandemic the Spitfire Lounge could have about 12 people in there, and perhaps 4 people if maintaining social distancing. Not Priority Pass, it's not currently open, and BA currently won't offer it at the moment, who knows what the summer will be like. But SOU is one of the those airports you can turn up 30 minutes before departture, if HBO, quite comfortably, so perhaps it doesn't matter.

Just to say, SOU is a very easy airport to use and handy if you live in Surrey/West London/Hampshire. I’ve used it as an alternative to London airports before because it’s straight down the M3 and you can arrive 30 mins before.

Southampton Airport Parkway station is also well served on the mainline from London Waterloo and is one of the shortest train to terminal connections in the UK

SOU has very easy train connections (a very short walk to the terminal from Southampton Airport Parkway station) it's on the SWML that runs between London Waterloo and Bournemouth/Weymouth. It's very easy to get to from London as long as there's no engineering works on.
I might take a look at some of these just for a change.
