Security @LHR (Chocolates)

Thanks in advance for your help. When vacationing, we always like to bring chocolates for the crew. We will be getting off a cruise in Southampton. Will we be able to clear security with chocolates? In the US it is allowed but want to ensure it is in the UK also.

Don’t forget to bring some chocolates for the check-in agents, security staff, any retail staff you interact with, lounge staff, gate staff, flight crew, immigration and customs officers and your taxi driver.

As well as BAEC Gold Card holders...they like to feel wanted.

No. If they catch you, you’ll be sent to the Tower of London.

(Seriously; what do people think the UK is like?)

Chocolates are permitted but sometimes a block or box of chocolates can look suspicious on the Xray. When carrying chocolates in this format, I always put them through in a separate bin by themselves.

A place of sanity where the biggest threat to the country is running out of toilet paper in the office during Taco Tuesdays

and sometimes the only way to test it is for the security staff to try eating it to make sure

Seriously, UK airport security staff are some of the most paranoid I have ever met (though many of them are nevertheless courteous while performing their duties). The UK has sniff tests for liquids and a higher level of stringency that I don't usually encounter at other European airports.

Chocolates with a high lactose content have to be specially screened. Ask for the “milk tray” at security.

But to be visually inspected only - otherwise there is Black Magic involved in going through the scanner

You'll only get Chocolates through security if you do a Twirl beforehand.
