No details are provided and we’ve been inconveniently booked 24 hours later.

Welcome to Flyertalk and welcome to the BA forum.

I don't know the reason but it's a 789 service so I suspect there is a shortage of aircraft, or possibly crew - there has been a lot of disruption over the last 7 days.

If you want - or can - go on the Virgin service at 12:20 today you should call up now and request it. There is also a later United service. If you already accepted the new timetable (e.g. via the App) then you can't do this, you only get one shot at this. If you accepted not knowing about the alternatives you can ask BA to review it - the agent will have to talk to their supervisor in that scenario.

Ba 283/282 are officially cancelled due to operational reasons, the code being OPEY. It is due to a 787-9 being pinched from your service to position out to DXB to pick up the stranded pax from the BA108 DXB-LHR that was also cancelled due to the BA109 not flying last night. The cause of that is a lack of crew.

As the OP is new it’s worth a reminder at this point that there is significant flexibility in rebooking options on US routes - BA and AA share a joint business which allows full use of both carriers. You won’t have any pushback at all asking for one of the direct AA flights (if there’s space) or a connecting route. PHX, DFW or even AUS could be helpful here.

Can we get a new thread for every canceled flight?
