1A Showing as Available, unable to reserve

Off to SFO in the A380 soon. 1A showing as available (blocked, but okay as have Gold) - I can select it, but when saving I get an error. The online chat eventually came back and said there was an issue and to try again in 1 or 2 weeks!

Anyone else had this issue before, and able to resolve?

Maybe it's blocked as faulty, rather than/as well as blocked for status.

Sure, I thought of that - but the flight isn't until June!

Hence the advice to look again in a few weeks.

Some seat repairs don't have an end date, thanks to problems with supply chains and labour shortages.

They 100% do that. While the widebodies do have dedicated crew rest areas, there are times they have to block a seat for crew break/rest as well. I unfortunately had to do it many times as a manager for an airline.

Yes they do but BA don’t usually reserve them in First. Sometimes there are (usually flight crew) rest seats in Club depending on the length of flight.

The 787 being a prime example where it has an F cabin but crew rest on longer flights is a rear bulkhead window seat (with direct aisle access).
