BA San Diego plane change mid summer season?
Hi,
The A350 recently started the LHR - SAN route. I was looking at flights at the end of August and Expert Flyer is showing a 777 with the old CW. Flight 273/2. BA also show it is a dummy booking.
It’s on most of August it seems, which considering they seem popular flights and economy seems to be the highest across the west coast across the summer holidays, down grading the plane seems strange mid peak season, seems to be a 3 class as well.
What could be the reason, or could it be an error even though it’s on 2 sites?
Thanks for any ideas as we would concentrate on other airports with upgraded cabins

SAN likely a less premium destination than others (more leisure / occasional travelers and fewer business travelers and this is amplified during summer). I'll bet cities like LAS, ORD, LAX will keep their existing A350 flights.

I would have thought if it’s being used now pre summer holidays it would only get busier. I guess if the J class bookings are down for August and racing at other destinations they’ve done a swap. LA has 2 high J CS 777-300 and a 350 each day. LAS, PHX keep the 350 during August. SJC, SFO, SEA, PDX are mainly CW seats on 787, 380 and 777

The A350 is currently scheduled to return to SAN starting Sept 9th until the end of the Summer season. The odd rotation is cancelled, so some weeks go from daily to 6 times a week which may explain why some flights are not showing. From Winter onwards it is currently showing as the 787 (selling as 3 class, so likely -8/-9 as they did previously when the route was initially restarted). Take this all with the usual caveats. Aircraft changes are still frequent and the Club Suite rollout is still ongoing.

I can offer just one additional observation (and forgive my ignorance of 777 CW flavours, please). I have a booking on 1 Sept (SAN-LHR) on what appears to be a three-class 777 with 1-2-1 CW seating. This is also showing on EF. For the return on 11 Sept., it is showing as a 351 (as originally booked) on both MMB and EF. I understand, of course, that these might change.

Changed our flights to go out of LAX for this very reason. Couldn't face CW. Would have served me right I suppose if they had swapped yet again for CS but doesn't look like that's the case.

What website do you use to find out the prefix of the 777 (77L) as you mention as Expert flyer doesn't show this when searching for avios seats :-)
