Aircraft fleets were built with certain types of flight allocations in mind and as fun as it is for passengers to see wide bodies in fairly heavy use for domestic transcon and even high volume midcon routes in 2020-21, it’s not as cost-effective or as profitable as having those planes on true long haul.

And the vax and/or test requirements for a lot of international flights probably filter out a lot of the ‘my freedumb’ types prone to causing a fuss on purely domestic routes.

This is so true. Numerous US friends, colleagues, and even my American tenant in London had zero clue that we could not go there. So I suppose, why would they make a fuss? Yes, I know the US barely knows who the UK is these days so it truly is an unrequited love but given parallel landings seem to happen all day long across the country with zero orchestration, it does seem a bit mean.

Cookies being handed out at JFK arrivals today coupled with lots of flag waving from the local staff. Quite a welcome

I think the point is less about JFK, and more about the expectations set by Sean Doyle’s “the two jets will then fly in tandem” & “the moment the two jets land in JFK” comments.

Apologies if this was already posted and I missed it. Also love the enthusiasm in this thread.

Awesome footage of the BA from inside the VS flight. Lots of planeporn.

Do you know if BA’s FMS cost index is lower than VS’s?

Take it that's a one off appearance for BA1?

Other than chatting to any of the VS guys and gals I wouldn’t have a clue. I’d imagine they would be more or less similar. In reality CIs don’t make a huge amount of difference when ATC can go and undo all of your meticulous FMS/C skill duggery. If anything I think the VS crew may well have decided to request a Mach No that was ‘a tad’ above that which was filled with the flight plan. Not that I’ve ever done that to get ahead….ever 😉. We do like a bit of friendly competition.

Maybe the 35% cooking oil that BA was using made it slower.

Checked in yesterday morning at 0600 at the First area for BA894 to KEF . Check in was busy with lots of BA staff wandering around and music playing from a portable speaker . Security queue was long snaking through the check in area but moved quickly. A number of passengers being accompanied by BA staff . GF was busy . We departed late at 0848 and passed a large group of photographers next to the taxi way . BA1 being on hold at the end

Is there a news embargo on this or something?
"The first rule of dual take-off A350s from LHR, is that you don't talk about dual take-off A350s from LHR".

Seems to be practically nothing beyond the standard outside shots of the planes on the runway and taking off.

I don't think they wanted the hotpot or miserable salad starter to be shown on News at Ten

Some of the replies are quite amusing - including one from BA.
