New Onboard Announcements

New onboard announcements coming into effect in the coming days will remove all references to gender and ‘Ladies & Gentleman’ will no longer be used.

Oh well… At present I’d settle for an end to the endless announcements about the fact that ‘the way we live and travel has changed’, and telling me about the symptoms of novel coronavirus. I think most people are aware of this by now… Surely it can now be reduced to telling people that the aircraft has been sanitised and reminding them to wear a mask (although in 20 sectors in the last 3 months I’ve not seen the crew enforcing mask wearing or stopping people queuing through CE for the loo anyway, so frankly what’s the point). The only thing which is properly enforced is the disembarkation routine…

I'm so bored by the stream of announcements at the moment, echoing the comments of jmd above.

Maybe some are mandatory like the safety demo, but for me the rest are now like the adults' voices in the Charlie Brown cartoons, booming away while being generally ignored

My question would be if someone of the transgender/ queer / intersexual or any other community was actually offended by 'Ladies and Gentlemen', or do we try as a society too hard driven by the overwhelming need to be politically correct?

GGLs are to be addressed by the non-gender-specfc ‘Your Reverence’ when receiving their onboard greeting.

A small number of people seem to be perpetually offended by anything, but most in the "LGBTQI+ community" (a term that I, a gay man, roll my eyes at) see nothing wrong with "ladies and gentlemen" other than the fact that it can sound a little stuffy and old fashioned.

It is, however, good to also be sensitive towards those who might not identify as a lady or a gentleman, and might even be going through a very difficult time with regard to gender identity, and as long as the new announcement is natural and doesn't sound like BA is trying to hard to be seen as inclusive then I'm all for it.

Qantas have been using "Hello everyone" for years. You'll all get over the trauma quite quickly I would imagine.
