"Planned improvements to the Executive Club" email - any ideas?

Just got a BAEC email saying that due to said "planned improvements", HHA account adds/changes are going to be locked out for over a month. Specifically:

Between 4 October 2021 and 17 November 2021 inclusive, you'll be unable to complete the following actions on ba.com or by calling us:
  • Add another Member to your Household Account
  • Remove a Member from your Household Account
  • Amend personal or contact details of any Members in the Household Account
  • Set up a new Household Account

So... does anyone know what these planned improvements are? And why I have a faint sense of foreboding in the pit of my stomach?

Maybe they're upgrading to Windows XP.

It truly beggars belief to be denied such features for all that time. I really regret having set up a household account. Indeed, I'd love to remember why I did it rather than have my wife and two children have their own accounts...

Maybe they meant to write something like this:

"We know our members are in different time zones around the world so it's really difficult to avoid all disruption as we upgrade our systems. To minimize this, we're going to be taking our systems down for six hours overnight UK time on 4th October between 1am and 7am BST. During that time you won't be able to do[list of things]. Once this is completed you will notice these improvements [second list]. We apologize for the inconvenience as we make these improvements to our systems."

They need a staging server where they develop and test their changes then they just need to use a few hours to migrate the tested upgrades from the staging server to the live servers. It's not rocket science.

To have a BAEC account don't children have to be in a family account?

Yup, but they do have their own accounts within that where they earn Avios and TPs, so as it currently stands, I can't really see a problem with that.

Yes, sounds like an 'enhancement' to me.

“Don’t panic, Captain Mainwaring!” … although the word ‘improvements’ generates justifiable nervouness.

One has to assume changes to T&C are involved, as there are many other areas where IT improvements are needed.

Now we're going to have nearly two months of speculation, hyperbole and nonsense.
