LHR-BCN with a Lloyds/Barclays upgrade voucher for 15,500 + £50, return. The real benefit though is the inclusion of 2x checked baggage in club, which can be Skis. Ryanair charge £90 return just for the Skis, I think its astounding value.
Its probably a bit like Raffles "2 Adults, 2 Kids in Dubai at Half Term". Its highly specific and not that generalisable, but is a sweet-spot, I think.

If you have a 241 it also makes sense to use avios on long-haul redemptions.

I think I've literally just found mine this afternoon. Have been playing around with Avios redemptions in South East Asia/ Australia the last few months.
Qantas business class Melbourne to Perth 12k Avios and £106 one way. Cash economy fare is £180 one way, cash business fare is £900. Not bad for 4 hours in lie flat comfort.

Agreed. There used to be a couple of long haul sweet spots like DUB-BOS and TXL-AUH but not any more. You can still get value in some long haul redemptions like MAD-ORD on Iberia but compared to other programs the BA program's value lies mostly in short haul, especially RFS.

I cannot be as precise as you would wish - like other I have tended to use them pre-covid when fares are ridiculously high as happens sometimes on summer routes to AlC. These used to be 30,000 or so in CE. Equally I have used them occasionally to hold seats when times are uncertain so that these can be cancelled at low cost - if at all.

I currently have an RFS to BUD and back on the weekend of the Hungarian Grand Prix with the commercial fare currently at £972.57
Now all I need is for travel to be open and fans to be allowed into the race.

the £972 is the fare on the flights I’m booked on.
