What metal did BA fly to Russia in the 1980s?
Looking back at flights I made when I was much younger, I realise I don't remember the planes. Does anyone know what types of aircraft BA flew to Moscow and Leningrad in 1987 - and to Moscow in 1989? If it helps, I think the plane to Moscow in 1987 had Rolls Royce logos on the engines.

Boeing 737-200's formed the backbone of the European fleet back in the mid-late 80's along with the Boeing 757-200. I'm guessing the 737 would have been deployed to LED. The 737, 757 or even possibly the L1011 TriStar to Moscow. The L1011 and the 757 were both Rolls-Royce powered with logos on the engines.

Thanks. I suspect it was the 757 but I was kinda hoping someone could persuade me it was a Tristar.
During the 1980s it was the 732 to SVO.
I don’t think the L10 was ever scheduled to Moscow - did other longer routes in Europe such as ATH, LCA, IST as well as CDG and NCE.
When were the 747s used on LHR-SVO-NRT flights? Or was that just Virgin?
I think just Virgin.
BA operated OSA/NRT via ANC and were 744 equipped for nonstop service by the time Russian airspace opened up to them for over-flies.
In the early 70's I learned Russian as a second language at grammar school and our annual trip one year was to Moscow with Aeroflot on the TU104 ( which in those days had a tail parachute!).

The 1990 timetable shows the 747 on the Moscow route on certain days of the week and under flight number BA017 which was the LHR-SVO-NRT routing. I have a number of 80s timetables, too, if you wanted screenshots of schedules.
