No A380s out of HKG?
Last time I flew HKG to LHR it was on the A380, but checking flights for Aug through to Oct it looks to be a 773. Is this due to covid or had they changed to the 777 anyway? Seeing as it's a 777 I might do BKK to LHR instead as it's a 787. It would be a J booking fyi.

The whole A380 fleet is in storage. If and when the A380 will return is unclear, but unlikely to happen until autumn at the earliest. For now it will be the 777.

BA are mostly using 777,787 and A350s as these are the most economical jets. The 747s may or may not be back, the A380s are not very economical either so their future isnt bright. More in the July and August schedule change threads.

Failing that, I'd get the 787 for the coffin seat in J. I don't have big issues in jumping past the legs of those in the aisle and I quite like the extra room at shoulder level in that seat.

Basing it on travel to/from TPE ,
LHR-HKG-TPE is 5994 + 501 miles = 6496 miles
LHR-BKK-TPE is 5958 + 1547 miles = 7505 miles
The business class portion of the journey is almost the same ( 36 miles difference ) but the economy part is 3 times the distance
No way would I take such a detour. Personally I would try and get a non stop flight from TPE - In normal times, there are flights between UK and Taiwan; I believe CI flies that route and has a decent product; knock quite a few hours off of the journey
Wouldn't call a 1400 mile detour via Bangkok as being on way between London and Taipei

colleagues of mine in Taiwan refuse to travel china airlines, they do not trust their safety record.
they usually take Eva air through BKK. Personally i would take the HKG flight on the 777.
