UUA one leg of multi partner ticket

Hi All

Quick question. I booked a ticket to MEL on BA/CX in W. Seat available in J on Avios on BA sector so called to UUA but was told I could not upgrade as ticket includes sectors on CX.

Is this true? I can’t find anything on the net to back this up.

Just to be clear, is this a BA (125-xxx) ticket?

Check the rules on the main Spending Avios thread Your guide to spending Avios | 2020 edition

In particular this post:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/31910642-post7.html

And this section:

Important:
UuAs can only be applied to tickets issued on 125 stock. In other words tickets issued by BA or BA registered travel agents with ticket numbers beginning 125. Tickets sold by Iberia and American Airlines are issued on different numbered stock and cannot be upgraded using Avios.

Did you start in Y and buy an upgrade to W? Can’t think of any other reason you’d be denied

If the itinerary includes flights by other airlines then the ticket must be purchased directly from BA in order to be able to upgrade with Avios. If you bought the ticket from BA there should be no reason for them to refuse to upgrade.

Am I right in saying: yes OP should be able to upgrade with Avios, but this situation is not applicable to GUF upgrades as those can be applied even on multi-partner tickets issued by TA?

Yes, this is correct, however, I have not seen this in practice.
