Proactive Upgrade not actually available

Has anyone else experienced this recently?

Targeted short haul upgrade showing on the BA app only to fail at payment stage which then prompts you to call BA.

On doing so I got a fairly short treatment and offered a much higher price. I find this very misleading and rather annoying. Surely the app should be able to ‘not show’ fares that are unavailable.

This is a known bug, and was discussed a week or two ago, I can't find the thread. It has happened to me recently too. Like other posters, I logged in again via my laptop browser, the offer was still there, and all was processed correctly and I got my upgrade.

EDIT: here is the other thread

Upgrade interruptus

Very frustrating I agree, and not everyone would be able to immediately switch to regular browser.

I think the adverts are triggered in apps by a process that's infrequently updated, so even once all the available upgrades have been sold, the advert may still appear. No it shouldn't happen of course.

Thats for the link. As suggested in the other post I tried again successfully on a desktop.

Ridiculous really as the lady I spoke to was quite harsh to me and on reflection I think she must have quoted me the £99 each plus a £35 change fee (eg the offer was still available!). I would have expected her to waive this as my app was not working as it should.

Anyway, I got what I wanted in the end. Very reasonable to Stockholm I thought.

Had the same this morning. Payment in the app failed 3 times in a row, tried on BA.com and it went through on the first attempt.

Thankfully BA seems better at aircraft technology than at IT.

They buy off-the-shelf aircraft from Boeing and Airbus though
