Higher Waitlist priority: GGL or Gold for Life?

A colleague of mine who is Gold for Life got cleared yesterday for an upgrade and I (GGL) did not. We were in the same booking class. Was told it’s because he is Gold for Life.

If op ups they are not prioritised by status.

They’ll tell him that as it will make him feel good. He would have been selected by a computer though, with status just one of many considerations that it takes

I've noticed on board, my greeting is more often than not, a GFL greeting, over a GGL greeting. Not sure if one trumps the other in terms of CIV, etc. if it only lists one "rank." Anyone know?

It was an operational upgrade. Was told the Gold for Life was a higher status than GGL.
Is the CIV score for GFL higher than GGL?

Giving out an operational upgrade is really a fortuitous marketing opportunity -- so they're going to pick out the person who's most likely to be persuaded to now pay for a higher cabin, or who'll fly with BA more now that they feel 'valued'. Presumably, the BA computer just decided that upgrading your colleague is, in some small way, going to be better for BA's bottom line than upgrading you.

A bog-standard GGL will have a CIV of 97. A GfL will have a CIV of between 52 and 96 depending on how much money that individual puts behind the bar.

Thank you for this answer. So in short the max CIV a GFL can have is 96 and with that lower than GGL.
How do they calculate the spend for the allocation of CIV (52 to 96)?
