Does BA think I’m a total idiot?

Have a decent amount of Avios but using them is the rub, eh? Looked at booking Club w/ cash and upgrading with Avios LAX-LHR-MRS return but only upgrading to first LAX-LHR (next April). Total tally came to:
51,000 Avios PLUS $37,000!
How does that algorithm work?
I could book first class return for less than a third of that with cash!

It is an intelligence test. BA is timing you to see how long it takes before you pick up the phone to get a more plausible quote.

I think the answer to your question rather depends on whether you paid the $37000 or not...

IT and pricing glitches like this happen all the time.

The usual recommendation is to clear your cache and start again.

3 unhelpful posts in a row.

Well done all.

How hard would it be to simply type “it’s likely to be a IT error” and leave it at that?

Pathetic and childish.

Now, laddies! It’s all good clean intardnet fun. The sad bit is I’ve tried a number of permutations
on a theme of BA spin-the-bottle and all I ever get is

“You’re buggered, mate, thanks for your business!”

My takeaway is it might serve to just call,eh?

yes, it's not encouraging to new posters when their early messages are met with sarcasm and quite unwarranted criticism.

I guess we have a saying here.. What goes around comes around.
A polite introduction and a curious question gets a decent answer..
Its not what you say but how you say it.
And some answers were quite amusing..

I was amused by both the OP, and the responses, which I certainly wouldn't describe as rude/offensive.

The $37K consists entirely of seat selection fees (as per revised scales)

You can easily reduce the price with each piece of personal information you allow them to publish. 37K is just the start, nobody really pays that.

Right. Now you’ll think me a total idiot but how do I clear an IPAD cache? The only thing that I know how to clear out are bores in bars or Flounges.

Darling OP. This pricing nonsense is one of the most infuriating facets of daily life with BA. I keep getting a message saying that it can’t find all my flights and sometimes they all vanish. It drives me to drink. Memo to self - does one need a license?
