I guess you’ll be deplaning soon?

You would if you had seen her, I wouldn’t say it to her face though.

nope.

Sat in a furnace while they replace a part. Windows closed, heat rising, very little service.

I can feel the the B lounge taunting me from a couple of hundred yards in front.

The average age of a BA 747 is very much in line with Pucci's age - mid 20s.

That might make her loved even more. Which would be fine by me.

More to the point, is the dispatch reliability of the 747 any poorer than that of BA's other long-haul types? And if it is, by how much?

That would be interesting. My experience is just that, my experience. Could be that I'm just very unlucky..

It is somewhat irritating that they won't deplane us just to make it easier to control our whereabouts. Could have had some lunch and noon cocktails.

Bad luck and sorry to hear that. I have literally never had a 747 go tech on me. And I guess that if they were really as unreliable as is being touted BA wouldn't have kept them around for quite so long and in such sizeable numbers. The cabin temperature control does seem to be a recurrent theme though - in the air I always get the impression it's a temperamental design and the crews often wrestle with it.

I will never complain about flying on a 747. For BA, the 747 F product is noticeably worse than the A380, way less spacious, but give me that UD CW seat anytime.

Well we're off. It'll be borderline for full 261. €300 looks a given though.

I can't stand the 744 now... All the time up and down to Accra, the oldest most rubbish frames all the time.

On the plus side, it does help with my Avios balance!

I've been avoiding them for years. The world has moved on. Stepping on a 747 feels like going back in time after you've experienced aircraft like the A350.

I agree with the OP. I loved flying on Tristars, DC10s and MD11s when they reflected the modern engineering of their day, but they have had their day. Surely it is not treason for BA to force the queen to abdicate!

Gracious old G-CIVY was born in September 1998 so she’s barely 21. She could not drink alcohol in the US.
Unless plane years are like cat years and subject to a multiplier to convert to human age, it’s a bit offensive to call her an old rust bucket

ps: fingers crossed for full EC261
