Flexibility for Christmas
Oh FT hive mind, please lend me your combined wisdom:
Aim is to get myself and the Girlfriend out to Georgia (US) for Christmas with her family - ~23/24th-31st Dec or thereabouts. The ideal would be a repeat of last year's Black Friday 2 for 2k business fare to ATL [which I actually booked for just after Christmas, but cancelled within 24h] - obviously the issue is that this may not come up, and it'll be pretty last minute if it does. Most holidays I'd be happy enough with that, since we can always just not go in any particular window - but this kinda has to be Christmas.
So: wondering about tactics for getting a booking as backup, but that stands some chance of being cancellable come November. Options thus far:

- Book a cash fare now, but pick a route/schedule highly susceptible to AA schedule changes/cancellations when they prune things for the holidays.
- Use my 241 voucher (obviously very flexible, but not great value v cash fares right now).
