Changing a flight and refunds
Hi all
i was hoping someone can help me with explaining in laymans terms how refunds and change of flights work?
I have never needed to do this before so wanted to get my head round it first.
I am Silver and have a flight booked from LGW to Faro next month
out on a tuesday back on a saturday in economy. Hand luggage only.
for the first time ever I might need to change the return flight to the friday night.
my Original fare is £103 return
which it says is £60 fare and £43 taxes.
Therefore an average of £52 each way
i looked on "change" within manage my booking and it says an additional price of around £73.?
is this correct?
do I get taxes returned and they are factored in?
looking at a one way ticket from Faro on the friday it shows as £56...on skyscanner
is it better just to book an extra ticket to come home seperately and just no show on the Original ticket?
Or am I reading this all wrong?

I am guessing the change cost is a £60 change fee and extra fare as the original selling class may not be available on the new flight.
Yes if it’s cheaper you can just book a separate one way home and take that instead.

Some of the fees and taxes are asymmetric so for example APD is payable on ex-UK flights but not on flights to the UK. So the ex-UK leg will be more expensive.
The base fare could also be different.
But as to the additional £73 it will be a mix of of the BA change fee and any BA fare differences. Airport fees and government taxes are the same no matter the day of the week you fly.

Thank you both
so if it is a £60 charge to change a flight on top of any pricing difference between the two fare that makes sense.
but what is the £15 cancellation charge which has been mentioned in threads elsewhere..
if I were to cancel the return leg
(now I know it is not priced the same both ways, but for this example let's imagine it is)
£60 plus £43 taxes return
Therefore £30 plus £21.50 taxes each way
so the £30 fare is unrefundable for basic fare
but the taxes are....
so £21.50
but BA charge a £15 admin fee
so would refund £6.50??
is that correct.

Ryanair is 16 pounds on each Friday in July. Just get that? And there's no advantage to cancelling your BA ticket now, may as well wait to see if there's a schedule change / operational issue, or if your plans change again.
