Boeing 777-200 (G-YMMx) Four Class - Always Old World Traveller Plus Cabin ?

Had the worst flight I’ve ever had from London to Shanghai in World Traveller Plus last week, I’ll write a review when I’m home, the cabin being very old, very tired and mostly broken was just the start, BA didn’t care at all. Anyway, will get to that later.

Flying back 00.40 am on 19th and was just wondering if we are going to get the same terrible old cabin?

Thanks

Considering with a 777-300 you're guaranteed the newer version of WTP, count yourself lucky that you're not flying the original WTP as still found in some 747s and 777-200s.
Now the state of the actual cabin is a different matter, it's BA afterall and class of travel will be irrelevant...

Are you sure it was a 777-300ER? All of the 77W aircraft are less than 10 years old and, all things being relative, are generally the better 777s in the fleet with the same WTP product as found on the 787 and A380. Having looked back through the flights in the last week, it would appear that Shanghai has been operated on the 777-200ER. A number of these are indeed due to be refurbished as part of the LHR densification programme. What date is your return flight?

EDIT: Apologies, saw you posted your return date. You’re due to be on a 777-200ER with the same cabin as your outbound. Sorry to bring the bad news!

Thought so.

I was going to book Club World in the way out as it was important to arrive feeling ok as we went straight into meetings. My business partner reminded me we had a great World Traveller Plus flight on an A380 to Hong Kong and we wouldn’t need Club.

Obviously very naive about these things. To me it’s like walking into a store to buy a new TV for £2000, pay for it and they come out the back with a model from 4 years ago.

Didnt help that Club world was 70% empty on the way out.

Anyway, as I say the cabin was just the start of the problems on the way out which I will write about when I’m back.

OK so it's not a 773, you're on a 772 with 12F, the really old birds. My commiserations...

To minimise disappointment with sitting in BA's old WTP cabins to the USA where I predominantly fly to, I do the following:
  1. Always lower expectation to assume I will get old seats and IFE on 777 and 747 operated flights.
  2. Fly AA (route permitting) as guaranteed decent PE seat
  3. Fly BA A380 and 787 aircraft if available

i can assure you my 20 year loyalty of always booking BA where ever possible has ended after this trip.

It’s not so much they terrible cabin and service onboard, it’s that they have shown me how insignificant I am to them as a customer.

Only stating what plane it’s tells me it is in the BA app

Sounds like the BKK route which also has World Traveller Plus Classic! Older aircraft used on some of the longest sectors shows an element of contempt for customers but suggests the route structure puts Shanghai lower on the profitability priority list, You can get a state of the art WTP on a 1hr 50 777-300 flight to Madrid, though.

More and more travellers are basing their flight choice on aircraft type used on the route. When you next go to Shanghai, you might want to monitor whether BA has used 777-300s or 787s on recent flights but the remaining summer and early winter schedules indicate more 772s. Not an easy fix if you want a direct flight.

Actually they are far from the oldest 777 in the fleet. The G-ZZZx and G-VIIx (and G-RAES) are all older, but have benefitted from a more recent cabin refurb so look much nicer inside.

Just to close out the aircraft type discussion, courtesy of thebasource, which shows Shanghai has been consistently operated by 772s :
