The JL line at Narita is pretty good, but it does require you to fly JL the OW priority line is effective as well, but not as good as the JL one.

This is an interesting post.
I also had the same problem when I was a BA silver. Looking at the board I thought I could bring my friend to use the fast track with my BA silver. Obviously I got refused by the staff. That was so embarrassing! My friend even laughed at me. Since then I was so confused why they didn't let me use the fast track. Once I got my BA gold it seems like I never had a problem using that fast track anymore. Regardless I travelled with either CX or JL. If I wasn't reading this post I would never know what is the actual rules.

By the way what is "FFP"? I get "FF" but I have no idea with the "P".....

Frequent Flyer Program

But Wikipedia has quite a list of other options for FFP

I'm looking forward to trying it out in a couple of weeks now!

A better sign removes the need for passengers to go back to check with check-in staff because it'd simply make sense by looking at it and puts the matter beyond doubt, even if it's a weird policy.
Agree that the policy is not clear, having flown out of HND in JL Business (BA Emerald status showing on mobile boarding pass) almost weekly in the last year, I never had a problem until a few weeks ago when the security man said no. After a lot of finger pointing at the board to the left of the entrance, I left and went to the check-in counter, after a brief discussion with the JAL lady hanging around the First check-in counter she escorted me back to the security man who waved me through, meaning I was no clearer on the actual rules.
On reflection I thought that maybe the security personnel had got confused in the past by seeing First Lounge on the mobile bp and had assumed I was travelling First class, or they might just be controlling it better.

OK, I see that the context of the comparison was different, but there actually is nothing culturally wrong with seeking to ask a supervisor in Japan in itself. It is very much about how you put it. Sounding aggressive about it would be bad, but I think that goes in most places.
