Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Thanks Mikeyfly, I’ve had a look over there. Seems to be a common problem, with Matrix not always being up to date with availability.

As it happens it seems overnight more availability has been loaded. I’ve managed to book a traditional OTP-LHR-JFK-LAX-PHX TP run next July for just under £1,500. 800TPs so just under £2 per TP, which I think is decent value.

Found flights on Matrix, Powetools to AA Germany and booked very easily.

This one does include school holidays, so maybe it'll help someone. Both TATL and TCON in First, Minimum stay is 7 days. Must be issued on 001 stock. Fare: AA INX9C7S4.

What is currently in favour as a high earning, good value TP run? I reckon he needs to manufacture c.1000 TPs by next March so plenty of time.
You both should have a look at THIS thread as it might be in favour with your needs?

From what I can see, this does not allow Transcon in F either direction

Thanks, but that would be a lot less TPs. I'll keep playing around.

My TP run from FRA-MAD-FRA has just gone wrong.
Nice £144 business fare for 80TP but they've cancelled the outbound and neglected to tell me. Only found out from a second flight board after arriving at FRA, the first saying nothing but the gate.
Over an hour in a very slow queue right now.

Going to just stick to AA and HEL runs in future and avoid anything South American or thereabouts.

Sorry to hear. It looks like the inbound LA704 SCL-MAD was 40 minutes late and they've aborted the MAD-FRA rotation, opting to head back to SCL this evening.

Historically the stats have been good and cancellations can happen to any airline, so hopefully this doesn't dissuade you from giving them another chance.

A 40min delay and they've cancelled the flight? Seems quite extreme, but hopefully that will trigger compensation.

Booked this weeks ago during some time off from work. Would have rather tried for an OTP run but not enough time and FRA was easy to get to, and the chance of trying the LA 787 was appealing.
I generally have a one strike and you're out rule.

I imagine you'll run out of airlines in short time, if that's the case.

Only had issues with BA before and did well out of those. Handy being in the UK at the time.
AA have been no problem either.
Had no other cancellations as of yet.

LATAM seem to be offering the online option of booking for tomorrow, hours after I'm supposed to leave MAD. No use to me as I've flights back to MAN booked.
No-one has had any emails etc. If I had something before leaving London, at least I could have gone home. Now I'm stuck here for a day or so.

Might try for a hotel. Worse cities to camp out in.
Vet they would pay for one.

This might be getting a bit more EU261 thread content now.

This seems slightly double-posting.

I replied to the thread you made in the LA forum.

Note that EU261 stipulates they must put you on the next available comparable flight. I wouldn't wait until tomorrow evening's LA705. There are a bunch of options to get you to MAD substantially earlier. LH, UX, FR, and IB all fly FRA-MAD nonstop. There are a lot of relatively painless routings with one stop as well.

It seems you have a C ticket. That pretty much rules out FR. But most if not all of the other carriers do have a business cabin.

I put the post in the LA forum but mentioned it here just to highlight things can go wrong even with simple European runs.

Got myself rebooked on Iberia in the morning and getting some hotel tonight. Just have to get up at some early hour to go and check-in etc.
Hope they don't notice my negative points balance from their promo last year

Did notice that on my booking on their website, it changed from "cancelled" to "rescheduled".

Do I still get the TP for the booking (or a case of having to jump through hoops for them)?

Just need to figure out what I'm entitled to.
Got my Madrid hotel booked on IHG points as it was around £240 for the night and 25k seemed better value.
Can't remember if these points are classed as having a cash value for claims, insurance or otherwise.

Anyway, LHR-HEL will be my next run assuming I can find something well below £300. At least that can't go too wrong

My return LA flight is apparently fine.

Well, IB will yield the same amount of TP and probably slighty more Avios than LA. No 787 and no lie-flat seat but the s***ty IB seat, though.

Question for all: What if xenole hat gotten himself rebooked on LH. Could he double-dip and get original routing credit for the cancelled LA flight?

Club Europe Tier Point Run

Being retired and having too much time on my hands I have been looking at trying to take advantage of some of the current 80 tier point Club Europe deals. I was able to book the following:
  1. 11 May LHR-SOF
  2. 11 May SOF-LHR
  3. 12 May LHR-HEL
  4. 12 May HEL-LHR
  5. 27 May LHR-HEL
  6. 27 May HEL-LHR
  7. 28 May LHR-SOF
  8. 28 May SOF-LHR

Legs 1 and 8 simple return 235 GBP

Legs 2, 3, 6 and 7 multi leg booking 499 Euros

Legs 4 and 5 simple return 284 Euros

Total cost 929 GBP for 640 Tier Points (£1.45/point). A tedious 4 days spent on BTB flights but no other costs except getting to/from LHR from home 4 times.

I am sure even better value can be had in the Winter eg the multi booking leg referred to above (SOF-LHR-HEL return) with travel dates of 2nd,3rd, 9th and 10th December comes in at 391 EUR.

In total the 8 leg itinerary earns 24,000 Avios as BA Gold.

Finding the cheapest prices is tedious since I have found google flights and BA simple return searches (such as SOF-HEL) unreliable. I ended up working from low fare finder for the two locations to see where cheap fares aligned.
