Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

This was pre-COVID times though..
It is a 2-hour turnaround, I will only have hand luggage so hopefully, I should not have any problems

Thank you for your quick reply

Iceland's daily Covid infection rate has moved well into the 'red' zone, so based on past weeks actions by UK Govt, I'd be worried they will have their travel corridor status removed in this week's review, requiring 14 day self isolation on return. Rumours about Greek mainland as well (in case thinking of Athens), but they are only just above the 20 per 100,000 rate, which seems to be the trigger for action.

Thanks

I have just booked a weekend in Sofia and one in Istanbul in the sale for next March and April, they where great prices, and I can cancel if anything changes on the covid front.

I've been waiting to book this for weeks with an AA voucher after my CDG-HNL trip was cancelled, only to find AA couldn't ticket my BUD-HNL reservation as the original base fare of my cancelled ticket was in Euros, so any new tickets need to be the same (even though the fare was bought in USD on the US website and the new ticket I had reserved was in USD!),

So I'm on the hunt for a cheap Eurozone-HNL fare, best I can find so far is LUX-HNL-BUD at £1776.
Maybe try again. I had a similar experience with AA on the phone, agent spoke to supervisor and then was able to make the booking I wanted. It was a CDG-YVR booked in Euros, and then cancelled and ticket value used against a SOF-PHX which was seemingly priced up in US$.

What's the experience in general with AA's flexible booking policy? Did you cancel online or on the phone?

I have a booking I might want to change - I have a cancel option but no change option as shown in the flexible booking info on the AA website.

For changes on AA, ( except for bookings solely on US domestic flights ), you need to call them for changes.

You could cancel your ticket online but unless you fill out a cancellation form on prefunds.aa.com , the money would be stored into your e-ticket that you would use on future travels.

Also, for the datamark, on voluntary cancellations ( with no schedule change or cancellations by the airline ), refunds would be made according to the fare rules and a cancellation penalty may apply.

I've considered it, but something else strange happened, when I reserved a BUD-HNL itinerary. It was booked starting BUD-LHR, but this flight was missing from both AA/BA booking management, and the agent actually tried to ticket the booking from London, she didn't understand when I asked why the BUD-LHR was missing. This has happened in two reservations.....I'll give it another go when I can get a booking to stick starting in BUD. Thanks.

Ah, I was going by the website which implies voluntary changes are ok:
For new tickets booked between now and December 31, 2020, we’re expanding our offer to waive change fees for travel January 1, 2021, and later.

Keep in mind:
  • You may owe any difference in ticket price when you rebook your trip.
  • You’re allowed to change your origin and destination cities as part of this offer.
And:

You're allowed to make a change to your trip once, and the change fee will be waived. You can cancel your trip online and call later when you’re ready to rebook, including Basic Economy tickets.

However, during voluntary cancellations, you would need to pay the cancellation fee.

If my previous post was complicated, I apologize for that.

Yes, Iceland was added yesterday as predicted by gcuk, along with Denmark, Slovakia, and Curaçao. Source https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-53221896. Effective 4am BST tomorrow.

The ex-LUX fares haven't been mentioned, yet. Thus just for the record: two transfers, no min stay(!), no adv purchase requirement.
The LUX part is an add-on to an ex-BRU fare, but even though the add-on adds to the base fare the total ex-LUX is cheaper due to a 450 Euro YR from BRU.

The fare conditions are a bit more generous than that if you are looking to maximise the tier points on this offer. For example, going out on 23rd May LUX-LHR-YYZ-CLT-MIA, returning on 24th May MIA-DCA-JFK-LHR-LUX will earn 520 tier points for £833, a not unreasonable £1.60 per tier point. Returning on other days is also possible for the same price - you don't have to do a 9-hour turnaround in MIA!

This has been a really frustrating fare, as try as I might, I can't get an 80 tp leg in in Europe, and I can't quite get a 140 tp leg in North America - the fare does allow routing via DEN, but DEN to MIA is over 200 miles short of the 2,000 mile threshold. Frustratingly, SLC, PHX and LAS don't seem to work, and neither do Edmonton nor Calgary. If anyone could get an 80tp or 140 North America tp leg onto this fare, it could be a great tp deal!

JFK-SFO is >2000mi, so a simple LUX-LHR-JFK-SFO will net 40+140+140 TP per direction, i.e. 640TP for the return.

See above. JFK-SFO and JFK-LAX work. I was aiming for a simple routing. An overnight in LHR on the outbound might also help getting to LUX in the morning.

More TP ex-LUX.
(40+140+140+40)*2 = 720TP
