Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

Naive question (apologies) can you upgrade BA legs with miles when it’s (a) booked through an agent and (b) ticketed by a different airline? (IB for me )

Not sure if right place to ask, I have a TP run booked for May. However I have noticed my last leg is the next day so would mean an overnight at LHR or dropping the leg (which I do not want to do). However, BA has just made a schedule change on the first leg of a change of departure time of 5 minutes... can I use this to make a change to the last leg to make it all on the same day? The ticket is ticketed through AA not BA?
Let me know if you need more info

A few years ago when we used to have excellent exDUB sales the fares seemed to stick for a few weeks before either expiring or being pulled early. These days as you say the exEU sale fares seem to go within a few days even if the ticket by date is still weeks away. Also they are very bitty - they often cover one or two destinations and not the whole of the US. I think generally my advice now would be if something comes up at an attractive price for somewhere you want to go don't leave it more than 2-3 days to book otherwise you could well miss out.

205 points needed to retain Silver BA

1st post from a newbie - be gentle ....
I need x205 points to retain my Silver status with BA. I have already completed x32 eligible flights so only need the tier points.
I can fly between Monday February 18th and must be completed before Friday March 8th.
My home airport is Nice [NCE] and I am happy to do any routing. I particularly like Finnair but am happy with any allowed airline.
Shortest time away is preferable with comfort over price accepted.
Huge thanx in advance ....
Chris.

For anybody UK based, there is a quick little nested run available from LHR to MLA available. Nice simple B2B, stage 1 on a Sunday, stage 2 on a Tuesday a few weeks after. Total of 320 TP (80+80+80+80) for a total of £525 so around £1.64 per T/P!

Not sure if this is the best place to post but I'm having difficulty purchasing this fare I've priced up on ITA Matrix. Any pointers on how to book or who to call. ba.com seems to have difficulty on the outbound with the last leg. To add to that if I try to book on aa.com it comes in at £1699.

Nevermind, it was a case of hang up and call again with a new agent.

Welcome to the thread!

I think for that level of TPs you probably want to do NCE-LHR-XXX in club where XXX is one of the short haul + destinations that earns 80 TP per flight in J. Have a look at the list of short haul + destinations in the first post of this thread. Usually places like MLA, HEL, KEF, IST may work.

Indeed, that would net 240 for a round trip, and as the OP states they like Finnair, HEL is the obvious destination (though it is not always the cheapest).

NCE-LHR-HEL and return can be had for many combinations of dates in that time period for £464. Bit cheaper (£429) starting NCE-LGW but the cost and hassle of the connection to LHR for the flight to Helsinki outweighs the cost savings.

Deoending on which flights you book, you can connect via LGW on the way out (taking a position flight from LHR or wherever to Turin), then on the way back you can connect coming in to LHR from JFK and out of LGW to Turin. This would mean you could fly in to LHR, collect bags and then drop the final sector.

That woukd give 40 + 140 + 140 if booked in business so 320 total. It was about £1200 for the dates I was looking at. If you took the whole trip I think it’s about £3.33 per TP so a bit pricey.

There might be options to optimise better!
Thanks, that's not a bad price and Turin isn't the worst city to spend an extra day in!

I got that email too. Returns are showing as typically £505 in March (on Google Flights), so £455 after the discount. Not bad for 560TP!

I'm tempted to go again - just got to get to AUH!

165 points for Gold

First post on here after being an avid follower for some time. I'm 165 tier points short of Gold status with only two weeks left in my collection year. I was wondering if anyone had any data points on whether (1) BA would be willing to extend my collection year to allow me more time to fly for the remaining points, (2) they would give me some of the points so I had less flying to do--I was offered this first time going for Silver but didn't use it, or (3) both. The best bet I've found is flying a US domestic F flight on AA that would get me 80 points, but then I'm still 85 points down. Unfortunately I don't have enough time to fly transcon and get 140 in one leg, and flying a shorter trip with a connection, while perfect, is often more than double the price of flying direct. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
