Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

If the destination is important, why not consider a QR trip to Asia? It's usually 560 TP in J (140 per segment x 4) and it might be a more interesting destination for (i) a couple travelling together and (ii) to spend up to a week.

Nip over to the premium fares forum here: QR: ZAG - BKK (and many more destinations) companion sale €1,279pp Business QSuites there's a current discussion on ZAG - BKK for £1,108. Add on a RFS to ZAG and you're in business - and not much incremental cost to your multi Europe trips.

Thank you everyone for really good suggestion. Even if I didn't take up on the offers, this really opened my eyes on how you could do TP runs within Europe as well.

In the end I decided to do 1 weekend trip to Sofia (via OTP):

and another weekend trip to Toulouse:

Total costs of £937 per person for 560 TP at £1.67/TP. With the Avios discounts we used this was about £450 at £.80/TP. Good enough for me especially considering we had such limited time available. Thanks again for everyone's input!

I love how your "weekend in Sofia" ends up going from London to Bucharest and back and then to Sofia both ways, in true FT fashion 😂

Enjoy!

I have only ever done runs in long haul and in comfort (except for a HNL LAX red eye that is seared into my brain) so I admire your spirit. But 23 hours of Club Europe is well beyond by pain threshold. I did a IST in the summer and that was bad enough. I just hope the status is worth it.

I wonder if someone can help me - I'm trying to book the following itinerary:

SOF-LHR-JFK outbound 21st Oct (J/I)

JFK-MIA-UVF 20th Dec (S)

UVF-MIA 23rd Dec (Q)

MIA-LHR-SOF 23rd Dec (I/J)

I can price the SOF-JFK / MIA-SOF in business ($2400) and the JFK-UVF-MIA in economy separately ($740) but I'm trying to get the whole itinerary on the same ticket, but entering it in Matrix it won't find the fares. Any advice on how to get this to work (I'm worried about a tight connection time at MIA on the return) or to optimise this for further tier points?

Thanks in advance.

Has anyone found any inventive ways to go from NY to the West? I'll soon be based in NY, and am having trouble finding ways of getting far west (and south). Thinking San Fran, Vegas, Florida, Texas etc etc.

Currently for pleasure, as I'm almost year-end having got to BA Gold (just..) in 4 months, but looking to start pushing the AA program once I'm over there now I have lots of ways of maintaining gold through business travel.

Be careful, status on AA doesn't give you lounge access on domestic flights, regardless of class of travel. I'd stick with BAEC if you can get 4 qualifying flights every year, presuming you will stay with OW.

Yes I need to do a bit of research here. As you say, although I'll continue to stay BA Gold / OWE I know I can occasionally sneak into lounges (Admirals usually) by showing my First class ticket and OWE status, but not sure if reliably. However I think you can pay for straight up Admiral admission for $200 or something a year that I could likely use? TBD but not the end of the world if not, I'll just use priority pass.

I will still be travelling UK > NY 10+ times a year in premium Econ at least so can be sure to keep my BA Gold.

Purchase an annual Admirals Club membership. Options include individual and household memberships. Pricing vary based on your elite status with the AAdvantage frequent flyer programs. The cost ranges from $450 to $550 for individual memberships, and from $675 to $925 for household memberships, with renewals being $50 less expensive than new memberships.
Have a Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard. Cardholders receive a complimentary Admirals Club Membership that’s valid for the cardholder and two guests, or the cardholder and his or her immediate family (spouse, domestic partner and/or children under 18). Additional authorized cardholders also receive the same Admirals Club membership and guest access, and there is no additional charge to add an authorized user. There’s a $450 annual fee for this card.
Purchase an Admirals Club day pass. This is available at select locations for $59.

You can often route with two connections, one of the segments being a transcontinental. Such as: JFK-BOS-LAX-LAS but if you fly in business then it's not as comfortable so you'd need something like JFK-SFO-LAX-LAS. Just gotta play with the schedule and try to keep one of the segments transcontinental if you choose to go for BA status.

I understand why one would do so but this certainly goes against the spirit of the BA Tier Point run thread.

You can renew silver every other year for about a grand so it's not as good of a value proposition as you make it IMO.

I found a decent fare BRU-OTP and OTP-BRU.
Nesting two and doing B2B, for me there is not even the need of a night stay, so 480 TPs at around 1.81/TP or £1.56/TP and no side expenses.
Not the greatest ratio, but good when available time is limited.

Baec gold and silver always get into American lounges, both admirals and flagship. I've been in numerous times always on economy or premium economy. No need for a first class ticket
