Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

I'm doing next month
LGW-JER-LGW-AMS-LGW-JER-LGW over 2 days last leg is in Y (which gets me exactly what I need 205) but you can play around and see what you find

2 days off work and 600£ to spare you could fly this:
LHR-AMS-LGW-JER-LGW(overnight)-AMS-LHR

LHR-AMS-LHR
AMS-(LGW)-JER-(LGW)-AMS

If you do have more days to spare and wanna do something else apart from flying around you might consider the BA WTP Sep sale from UK to AUH and add a mixed Y/C to AMS or LUX to it?

Hello Fellow Frequent Flyers,

Status: Silver
TP collection year end: 6 Oct
TP needed to reach Gold: 560

What do you suggest?

I'll be in Dubai September so potentially could do an AUH-CMB-CGK-CMB-AUH for 560TP

Any other suggestions from UK/EUR perhaps, since that's where I'm based?

I've been reading this thread quite a bit today and that's where I got the idea for AUH-CMB-CGK-CMB-AUH from.

I also saw someone in a similar situation but bronze to silver and someone suggested waiting to the next TP year and doing a 600 TP run to get SIlver for two years. Is it worth me doing something similar but it means doing a 900TP run which seems abit much ust for the sake of getting Gold but perhaps I'm missing something.

Cheers guys.

Status lasts until the end of the year AFTER you qualify. So if you qualified for Gold in your year to Oct-19, you will be Gold until Oct-20. If you qualified for Gold in Nov-19, you will be Gold until Oct-21. Unless you have some booked flights earning TP already in the diary for after Oct-19, I would think that grabbing 560 TP by Oct is much easier than starting afresh in your new year and you can then decide if it makes sense for you to keep trying for Gold after you've tasted it.

I'd take the opposite view here, i.e. you might as well do a 560 TP run at the start of your next year, guarantee silver for a couple of years (given the 4 BA flight requirement), and have only 900 points to go for gold qualification. It's pretty easy to slot in a couple of CGK runs in less than a week, and if you happen to be near AUH for work anyway which I guess is possible, it's very cost effective. You're going to have to requalify for gold anyway assuming you want to keep it, so you still have to fly 1500 TPs next year as well. Welcome to the treadmill.

I did it in the period leading up to the end of my TP year, much as is being suggested. And that was an expensive mistake because I actually retained gold within one month of the start of the TP year (as part of my GGL push). We all live and learn! You do obviously get some benefits in the interim, full seat selection and the gold wing, but at outstations it's more or less the same. So patience, padawan, basically.

I disagree with that considering where OQ is in his TP collection, so I would throw something else into the mix here, with 3 options for when he does the TPR seeing as he already has Silver status until 2020-11-30

1. If you do the 560 TPs now, that gets you gold until 2020-11-30, and Silver until 2021-11-30. { Due to the soft landing from Gold to Silver }
2. If you do 600 TPs ( + 4 Flights ) after October 8th, you will be Silver until 2021-11-30. { Do 1500 TPs in this year and you are Gold until 2021-11-30 and Silver until 2022-11-30 }
3. If you do 600 TPs ( + 4 Flights ) between 2020-10-08 and 2020-11-30 you will be Silver until 2022-11-30.

It really comes down to how much he "wants" that gold card, how much he plans on flying next year. Personally I don't value the Gold benefits over Silver enough for a c600 TPR. To retain Silver for 2 more years though I would consider it, so for me I would take option 3.

The decision comes down to this (assumes no other spending, and October year end):
  1. Acquire 560 TP before Oct-19
    • Gold for 2019
    • Gold for 2020 (qualified in 2019)
    • Silver for 2021 (soft landing)
    • Bronze for 2022 (soft landing)
  2. Acquire 600 TP in Nov-19 or thereafter
    • Silver for 2019 (existing status)
    • Silver for 2020 (qualified in 2020)
    • Silver for 2021 (qualified in 2020)
    • Bronze for 2022 (soft landing)
Bisonrav makes a good point - if you think you've got a good chance of qualifying for Gold in 2020, better to use the 560 TP to kick start that year. Otherwise I still think better to get it now as you're so close.

This is spot on.

But besides all that... if you're already going to be in the UAE you do the CGK run!!! Later on you're going to have positioning costs to factor in so you won't get 600 TPs for 600 quid...

First year focussing on Executive Club and I will be 190TP short of getting Gold before my year ends at the beginning of January. Would seem a waste not to try to get it... also for the soft landing to Silver. Work takes me to South America and I book the cheapest business class tickets most of the time with any of the alliances, so I'm not guaranteed to re-qualify for Gold (or even Silver) next year.

I still have one week of holiday in November so perhaps something is possible when it comes to finding a relatively cheap way to get the 190TP. I need to book for 2 pax. WTP fares LHR-DOH at just over £3/TP seemed ok... but perhaps anybody else has any other tips?

Thanks for your responses, so glad I posted here. I didn't realise I needed to collect a whole 1500 TP from scratch next TP collection year. I thought at TP collection year end I'd get knocked down to 600 TP to line up with my current silver status and only have to get another 900.

Since that's not the case and based on your responses, I'm thinking I should try get that gold status while I'm so close and then see what gold is like for a year. I also can't guarantee that I'll be able to get 1500 next TPC year.

I will have a read over your responses a few more times though still but this is what I'm feeling at the moment.

I searched on Google flights for AUH--CGK round trip (one world, business) and found it for £705. It's with Sri Lankan. Would that be the one?

Just as I'm writing this, I've received an SMS from BA saying the return leg of my LHR - DXB roundtrip has been cancelled so I might now look into options for a turning the actual Dubai trip into a TP run.I have a couple other trips so I think I'm only going to need about 500 TP.

This is getting exciting. Thanks for your responses so far. I'll have a search through the forum to see if there are any suggestions for a TP optimised way of getting to Dubai from the UK. Maybe via Inverness or Dublin or somewhere.

Yes, that's the one. There is a separate thread for that run: Oneworld: UL: DXB-CGK in J, $800 R/T

There will **probably** be a UL sale to reduce the cost by £150 or so, but obviously that's a gamble.

Looking for advice on getting the 325TP (ideally in one go...) and four qualifying flights I need in order to make Silver before December 8th.

I'm in Doha, for what it's worth. I need to be back in Los Angeles at some point in mid October, so the ability to roll the TP run into that particular trip would be very, very valuable. Thanks in advance for any advice.
