Paying to "Upgrade" to Economy Basic

Because who doesn't want to pay an extra $14 for fewer benefits?

If you click on the flight number it'll tell you what booking class each fare books into. You may find the cheaper (more frills) fare earns less miles? Just a suggestion

Noticed this on a couple of recent fares I've searched. Perhaps something with sales fares being loaded and having separate inventory?

Often see cheaper CE tickets than ET. I guess it pays to check.

Just as likely that neither number there is a quote, but just an estimate churned out by an algorithm which can see a lot that the user can't immediately see from the page, including possible combinability problems.

Whenever examples like these are trotted out, it would always be more interesting to see fully-priced round-trip fares in which basic turns out to be more expensive than standard on the same flights.
