Question LAX 2019 Aircraft type change A380 to B747- anybody know why ?

Have been travelling LHR to LAX on the A380 for the last 3 years with BA and have booked for next July 2019 and had prebooked my seat in the upper cabin 53a. Got email today saying seat change. On viewing the seat change also an aircraft change to 747 and it appears that all a380 are now replaced with are either 747 or 787. Anybody know why?

In April and May I think they removed the LAX frequency to be able to serve DXB during the schedule change because of the runway maintenance however in July I’m not sure. Not sure where the extra frames will end up.

Yes, I thought the A380 to DXB was just for a few weeks in spring? Although I could be wrong.

I did say that.
6 weeks across April and May. Why it has been removed from LAX in July I don’t know.

Haha, no worries. any ideas on July? Any maintenance scheduled for A380s or resuming summer flights to IAD?

Both the 283 and 286 are showing as 747 which is two A380s elsewhere

Some info posted in the S19 schedule thread copied here:

Looking at where the A380 fleet are currently listed for S19 schedules:
1 x HKG Daily
1 x SIN Daily
1 x JNB Daily
1 x LAX Daily
1 x SFO Daily
1 x YVR Daily
1 x BOS MON/FRI/SUN

Can’t see anything listed for ORD/IAD/MIA.

10 A380’s are required MON/FRI/SUN and 9 A380’s on TUE/WED/THU/SAT to operate the current S19 schedule loaded.
Now your are saying that the 1x LAX is dropping so not sure where that is going. There is now the mentioned DXB addition too but definitely slack in the network. BAs first big C checks are coming up but not until September/October for XLEA/XLEB first so shouldn’t account for dip in July schedule. There must be one more route getting it. Back to 2x JNB like they have done before would remove this slack so very possible.

I think BOS might be daily for S19?

BA213 showing A380 daily throughout July

You are lucky to get an email - they just booked me into the same seat numbers in First without telling me of the aircraft change, on both an A380 and 787-9 to a 747 and 777

Are we saying that Miami won't behaving the A380 in January then? (specifically BA0209 25/01). If so, glad to find out now as was about to pick a later flight due to this. I'll simply go for the early morning BA0207 747 instead.

You should be fine. Like you say MIA tends to be a winter A380 destination and the flight you mention in January is currently showing as an A380.

My BA213 to Boston next May was a 747 when booked but MMB now showing a 380. However, Expertflyer and ITA Matrix still showing a 747 so caution needed at the moment regarding equipment for summer 19.
