BA465 from Madrid 3 hours late tonight..

With my daughter on it coming back from a school trip, who will need picking up probably about 3 in the morning now, grrr...

Can anyone see the reason for the delay, am half expecting it's weather related, but if I'm going to lose a nights sleep, I would at least like to be able to console myself with some EC261 comp 😊

BA will be burning through the night quota at this rate. 5 flights expected in after 23:30 today alone. Unless there's been a declaration of exceptional circumstances.

EC261 compensation is payable to the traveller

Looks like the plane had a 90 min delay in SOF, landed with 60 min delay in LHR. G-EUXC departed to MAD with 3 1/2 hours delay and is currently west of La Rochelle. I'm not certain that it was weather.

Indeed, and 'the traveller' will be using said compensation (if any) to put towards her next exotic school trip, of which there are several lined up...

Honestly, all I got was a trip to Wales when I was her age!

Give her a hint that she should tip the chauffeur.

Different weather, odd customs and a foreign language - what more do you want?

ZY isn't even there!
Although our resident guru CWS has previously stated that it's a 'rotational' delay, i.e. knock on effect of late inbound aircraft. Now given that this is Madrid we're talking about, an IAG hub, they will get more than a raised eyebrow from me if they try to wriggle out of EC261 on the basis that the inbound was weather delayed, and they had no alternative planes available. Or am I being unreasonable here?

BA don’t have spare planes at MAD, and they can’t just commandeer any IB planes that happen to be around.

I flew bcn/lhr/iad yesterday. First flight was on time. The second was delayed 2 hours. The departure board was lit up with late departures and many cancellations. The pilot informed us it was weather related.

As Karfa says, they can't just wander round the apron until they spot a spare A320 and go 'want that one' as if they're the guy in Little Britain.

IAG is not one amorphous airline - it's a collection of airlines at operational level.
