Should have just taken it as carry on like this lady on my flight to FCO! And this despite the usual we are very busy free check-in text/e-mail! Needless to say she also had a large handbag + other carry on that was pushing limits. Unsurprisingly this didn't come close to fitting in the overhead bins despite vainly trying every possible angle so was stashed in the front wardrobe. Considering boarding had only just begun I was slightly disappointed they didn't sling it in the hold!
