Tier Point Run in Asia

Hi All,

I will be in SGN for a 10 days in May and I was looking for some Tier Point Run ideas. I have been looking at SGN - KUL -SIN with MH - this is working out at €375 for 160 TP. I was just wondering if anyone else has some suggestions? The more TP the better.

Thank you

Depending on how many TPs you need, look for TPE. KUL-TPE is barely over 2K miles, so 140 TPs each way, and often reasonably priced. Not sure whether pricing is cheap when starting in Vietnam, since SGN-KUL-TPE is nobody's idea of a direct routing that would fit into a MPM...

PEN is also a cheap way to tag 40 x 2 TPs onto any flight to KUL.

Welcome (back) to Flyertalk as I see it is only your second post! There is a thread specifically discussing TP runs where you might find some useful information of existing TP runs, not least in Asia, that people consider to offer excellent value!

Yes, TPE is a good one as it's 140 TP each way from KUL. If you're being ambitious and don't mind overnighting in India, then TPE-KUL-BOM-KUL-TPE nets you 560 TP.

Another option if you want to make yourself dizzy is KUL - PEN - KUL can be done on same day returns and net 80TPs for around £90 so about £1.10/TP can do about 4 a day if you really wanted.

Kota Bahru is closer and cheaper than Penang and easy for turnaround.

Looking at dates @sxc I can see that this route is actually £10 dearer, Do you see cheaper dates than £93?

I stand corrected. When a friend was doing a run last year Kota Bharu was the cheapest but looks like not anymore.

MH definitely your best bet, play around with different destinations and look out for (frequent) sales - one just ended. Penang seemed to be cheap in that one and is nice for a visit.

note though their timing esp on domestics leaves a lot to be desired and flights generally run pretty full (esp. Singapore in evenings) so best not to schedule tight connections if you've got other tickets or plans to make! Back-to-back domestics are safe as they'd both be delayed and most airports disembark you into the departure area So are easy to do (Langkawi is one exception though but a tiny airport)

Is there any destination out of HKG in south east asia other than CGK (in the range of 2000 miles) that earns 140 BAEC tier points in one way business class?

You can find this out via the oneworld website / Where We Fly / Destinations. If you enter HKG, clear connections and look for non stops, you can then sort by distance and share/print etc.

So this is what I got:

Hong Kong (HKG)
Hong Kong International
Airport
Hong Kong (China SAR)
Jakarta (CGK)
Soekarno-Hatta
International Airport
Indonesia
Non-stop Cathay Pacific Airways 3,262 km

Hong Kong (HKG)
Hong Kong International
Airport
Hong Kong (China SAR)
Surabaya (SUB)
Juanda Airport
Indonesia
Non-stop Cathay Pacific Airways 3,307 km

Hong Kong (HKG)
Hong Kong International
Airport
Hong Kong (China SAR)
Sapporo (CTS)
New Chitose Airport
Japan
Non-stop Cathay Pacific Airways 3,433 km

Hong Kong (HKG)
Hong Kong International
Airport
Hong Kong (China SAR)
Irkutsk (IKT)
Irkutsk Airport
Russian Federation
Non-stop S7 Airlines 3,438 km

Hong Kong (HKG)
Hong Kong International
Airport
Hong Kong (China SAR)
Denpasar-Bali (DPS)
Ngurah Rai Airport
Indonesia
Non-stop Cathay Pacific Airways 3,460 km

Hong Kong (HKG)
Hong Kong International

Hong Kong (China SAR)
Denpasar-Bali (DPS)
Ngurah Rai Airport

And the rest were in India / Russia / Australia.

DPS is a good destination if you are in Hong Kong because TAs sell fairly cheap packages (Hotel+Flights) in discounted J.

I'm looking out for TP runs from Hong Kong too - best I can find is TPE to KUL @ 5000HKDs. Ideally I'd like to tag SGN on to this as I need to travel there.

TPE-KUL-SGN is 5400 return. You can have a stopover in KUL for the same price, in which you could do a few KUL-PEN-KUL as needed before proceeding to SGN.
