I did not know this, but very glad to hear it! I have used the returning ESTA queue with great effect in the last 18 months and had been thinking about GE now that there are London dates, but I don't use it that often to make it worthwhile. If I get a new ESTA in the summer before my PHX with the same passport then I think that will be the best mix of time vs cost for me.

Thanks for the tip!

Maybe a bit stupid question, but arriving at JFK T8, how do I know what is the returning ESTA queue? Is this a separate queue in the same immigration area? Is the entry to the queue marked with returning ESTA or something similar? I would hate to join the wrong queue and since I will be departing the plane first I would like to be in front of the queue. I have an onward connection to LAS with the A321T in F so would like to maximize my time in First Class dining if I get access since my ticket is BA marketed

Really! When I arrived at EWR with a certain Saudi Prince in his BBJ the head of Immigration for the Eastern seabord met us onboard and cleared his entourage and off they went in Limo's with Police escort.

Or did you just mean it is illegal for riff raff. It was a nice experience to be cleared in a similar fashion and sent off in a Limo with mrs rapidex.

It is a single immigration area with separate tensabarrier queues for visas/first time ESTA, returning ESTA and GE. The signage is pretty clear and the entrance is staffed so you can just ask and they will point you in the right direction.

Last month arriving around noon, it took a whole 2 minutes to clear immigration. And then we waited for luggage... for an eternity.

There will still probably be a wait for bags, but AA seems to do a lot better than BA at acknowledging priority tags.

It is urban myth that it is "illegal" to provide Fast Track or its equivalent. It is simply that the US has chosen not to do so and thus carriers have no opportunity to purchase it. GE is open to anyone who qualifies.

You're getting preferential treatment because you've been verified as a low risk traveler, not because you've paid a fee. Totally different ball of wax. The fee goes towards covering the cost of the background check and administering the program.

Fast track lanes may not be illegal as in Congress passed a law banning them. But the fact that not a single US airport has one, despite how much of a cash cow they could be for airport authorities, suggests that they are not allowed for in CBP regulations.

Interesting, thought you previously said they were illegal

anyway we are going a bit off topic now, so let’s settle on “we don’t know”

If you arrive on AA with a tightish connection in business class (and probably other classes) you get issued a large dayglo priority card which speeds you through landside and back in priority queues, though not immigration. Even so, I got in on a new passport/esta combo in less than 10 minutes.
