Doing this in reverse and found a good deal on AKL-HKG-DUB for September. I am stopping off in HKG for no extra but am flying J-class. CX new routes are offering some very good deals (at least from my end of the world). Dublin, Brussels and Copenhagen are all less than daily but using the A350. As I need to be in the UK (NCL and MAN) a quick hop in mileage earning Aer Lingus and BA help. I have booked a BA Cityflyer one-way MAN-DUB in business for GBP100 on their Embraer 190.
Although not cheap compared to starting in Europe, I managed CX business class return for about GBP3,000 return (includes my domestic fare in NZ and a return side trip to CAN from HKG for work - a 20 minute jump in an A330 but they all add up for my Qantas account).

I may have missed it but dont think this was answered. If you mean with avios, no it isnt possible. No idea if cx offer discounted upgrades in theory however my experience is of packed j so I doubt cash upgrades for less than full cost will be available in practice either.
