A schedule change or flight delay of 60 minutes or less is NOT eligible for a refund. If a schedule change is 61-120 minutes, refund to voucher only is allowed. ... If a schedule change is more than 120 minutes or flight cancelled, a refund of the ticket to the original form of payment (FOP) is allowed.

I'd be amazed if you haven't had a cancellation yet since booking?

I had the large raft of changes late March, and I made changes to suit me. I had changes again I think on 25/03 but these were literally five mins here and there so left untouched. I think I've voluntarily screwed myself over.

If the BA281 gets cancelled due to Dreamliner issues this could get me a refund I see?

Yes that would get you a full refund.... Worth a call and saying the changes you accepted no longer work and seeing what happens?

I have found all my phone calls with the exception of the very original (when I paid the held reservation) exceptionally painful!!! Makes you appreciate the Gold Line more than ever

AA are usually fairly decent...there is a dedicated EXP desk which as a Gold you can call too....or there's always Twitter. Good luck!

Would you want to fly if you could at some other time, or do you want to skip it altogether? Flexible about how you do this? At this point if you're willing to take a cancellation with tax refund, I am assuming all options are on the table. AA should let you pretty much change the whole thing out (ish) and book yourself on a whole new trip. You could literally do LHR-JFK RT in J, or put yourself on an OTP in J. You would basically be able to credit the fare you have paid, minus the change fee, to a new trip. You don't want to get into the habit of doing this, as you can pretty much run down the value of your ticket in change fees, but it might be a better alternative than hoping BA cancels a flight on you. It's been a while since I have had to do this kind of thing, but I used to do it regularly in my day as an EXP and yes, if you had some leftover cash they might even mail you a voucher, on paper, redeemable at the airport It was a weird process and may no longer be in force.

If you call the UK number, they are a little less clued in. Nice and mean very well, but they sometimes miss things. If you can get through the EXP line and they stop for a minute and realise you are OK to talk to them, you will get better support, but sometimes they will decide you shouldn't be on the phone with them and try to forward you on. If this happens, HUCA. Have a routing planned (I'd like to change this to OTP-PHX with these flights, but in J). See if you get somewhere. The trick is to plan on a route you know won't cost 3k more than the value you have now You should be allowed to downgrade yourself in the process. F was a nice deal, but J ain't too bad. Good enough for most folks on the OTP TP run

Thank you for the detailed response MarkedMan I absolutely do want (need!) to travel still - it's only 800 TPs I am after to regain Gold - I had chosen a comfy F route to OTP but will certainly take a J routing a week or two later! I need to get hold of this EXP number, I had genuine trouble (and five phone calls) making simple changes after the AA schedule movements. I was re-booked onto the wrong flights twice and then down into J... Would I call Gold Line and ask to be put across? Have done some Googling and can't get the EXP number.
