Hurricane Ophelia disruption [cancelled flights - 16 and 17 October 2017]

My daughter took her boyfriend to Rome for the weekend as a birthday present. She has just checked her account to find her flight home on Monday has been cancelled, with no reason given. The message said to call BA, but needless to say she can’t get through, the usual “exceptionally high demand”.

With only two full days in Rome, it can’t be much fun trying to get through to BA. She can’t change it online, she tried. Fortunately she checked her account as she received no email or text.

She is silver and this was a reward booking. Any ideas? All she wants to do is get home ready for meetings on Tuesday, but where she stands with regards to claiming for hotel etc if she can’t be rebooked, would be helpful.

Sorted. After trying for a long time she finally got through. They tried to put her on a morning flight, losing a day in Rome but she finally got a later flight. Why on earth didn’t they text or email her?!

Thank you

Due to hurricane hitting Ireland, BA is cancelling some morning flights to Ireland. The schedule should be finalised but further disruptions to other ports possible.

Ophelia disruption [cancelled flights - 16 and 17 October 2017]

Was due to fly on BA1417 from BHD-LHR at 1505 in J and received text saying it was cancelled and I was rebooked onBA1423 at 0910.

Bit of a pain as staying over 2hrs from BHD. However silver line assistant said to book hotel in Belfast and put in claim to BA.

I assume other flights from BHD and DUB in afternoon and evening tomorrow also affected.

BA reports this as "airport restrictions" which generally means ATC due to something such as weather. But, the reason is largely irrelevant.

There are services 5 minutes earlier to LGW, 1:15 later to LGW and 1:30 later to LHR, all of which appear to be availability.

Consider calling the US line which may not have such a long queue. The longer she delays in calling, the less availability there will be as passengers from her flight call in for rerouting.

BA's poor IT which does not permit online IRROPS rebooking is antiquated, but that is not a worthwhile complaint at this point and certainly will not be fixed before her flight.

BA 399 (BRU-LHR) for tomorrow cancelled as well. Also was quoted airport restrictions as the reason. Rebooked on the BA 397.

We haven't had the rebooking process yet, but there are standard remedies in this situation for those with cancelled flights (refund/rebooking/going to somewhere else within 300 miles).

Gatwick and City-Stansted, no information yet.

In particular staff are being asked NOT to send people to London if there onward is cancelled, so airport staff may well push people on to alternative carriers instead. For anyone doing third country itineraries (e.g. starting or ending up in DUB), kindly note (or rue the consequences, as it were!).

.
I've already been rebooked onto an earlier flight from the 1417. ^ to ba for efficiency and helpful call centre staff member who assured me BA would cover hotel cost for earlier flight.

Thanks guys. Fortunately she eventually got through and has been rebooked. I think she was a bit peeved losing several hours of their Rome weekend, hanging on hold to BA. If only it had been possible to reschedule on line. Sigh

EU-261 / BA0398 Cancelled, re routed 3hrs 20 later

Hi
mondays BA398 LHR-BRU cancelled. I’m re routed on the next departure, expected arrival 3hrs 20 later.

reason for the delay - airport restrictions.
assuming the landing is more then 3hrs late than the original booking can I still claim under EU-261?

'airport restrictions' means generally due to weather or ATC issues so no compensation due under the regulation.

This one is weather: Hurricane Ophelia-related. See this post in the Ophelia thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...l#post28934941

No chance.

When BA quotes Airport Restrictions then it generally means that Heathrow Airport have requested operators to reduce their schedules due forecast weather. The CAA have in the past quoted these flights on their website IIRC.
