Weird emails from Avios

I just received 2 strange emails from Avios titled:

Avios: Your Absa Cash Rewards have been converted

and

Avios: Your uCount Rewards points have been converted

The emails look they are from Avios as the have my correct balance embedded and just confirm a points conversion (no amounts mentioned) but I have never used or even heard of Absa or uCount. My Avios account looks ok with no unusual transactions showing.

Did anyone else receive similar emails from Avios today?

Possibly just an IT glitch then if it wasn't just me then.

I'm hoping 2 million avios appear in my account over the next few days

Nothing heard here, but then I haven't logged in to my Avios account for over a year, I suspect. I let BA and Amex look after that aspect

Me too, both of them. I don't like what Avios do with email. They sent an email about buying points, and the link in it forwarded to a non Avios domain. I'm always suspicious of emails that forward to domains with different names, and consider it very bad practice.

I had the same emails. As a precaution, I changed my password. I assume it's just an IT glitch though.

They've tweeted that its an error.

"We're aware that an email for our South African customers has been sent to some of our UK base in error, please disregard. Thx ^VW"

I have them too.

They are for my avios account only, not my BAEC account avios. I have them with different login details so know which are which!

ABSA is a South African bank, which is currently a subsidiary of Barclays Bank: https://www.absa.co.za

UCount is a rewards scheme operated by Standard Bank (of South Africa): https://ucount.standardbank.co.za/personal/

And avios.com has a South African scheme, so all of this is consistent with an emailing glitch rather than anything weirder or more sinister.
