upgrade seats 24hrs before departure?

upgrade seats 24hrs before departure?
flying from LAX to LHR then on to LIS. bought tickets from Travelmerry.com; too good of a deal to pass up but know that was risky.
Hoping to upgrade our seats from economy to premium economy or possibly to business even. I know I cannot upgrade seats with BA and dont want to upgrade with Travelmerry.
I have read seats/itinerary is released to the airline 24hours before departure (check-in). Would I be able to upgrade directly with BA at this time with money or points?

There could be an AUP (airport upgrade) on offer on the day for cash but you can't use miles on the day to upgrade.
Ask at checkin or the ticket desk when you get to the airport.
