BA and QR enter revenue and code sharing pact

BA and Qatar Airways are entering a revenue sharing pact, effective from 30 October. This will mean codesharing on all flights between the UK and Doha, as well as a range of other flights. It will all the airlines to co-operate on schedules and prices, offering passengers greater flexibility and an attractive range of fares.

Well - this was long time coming - it might just give better options in terms of destinations and fare combinations - but there is a little niggling worry that the cooperation on prices will only push them one way: up.

removal of competition is never a good thing ; the 2 companies should be competing , not colluding

This is great news. It will remove the only disadvantage to flying QR over BA (fewer Avios points).

Excellent, more Avios on QR operated flights, will be interested to see what routes this covers.

"The joint business will see the two airlines code-sharing on all non-stop flights operated between the UK and Doha and connecting services to destinations in the UK, continental Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa."

Overall, should be good news. But it will highlight the gulf to more passengers between the 2 airlines (I'm talking in premium cabins - not so sure in Y).

The only concern would be that this is another cartel (sorry, JBV) that ultimately pushes prices in one direction.

The transatlantic JV hasn't stopped the rock bottom prices we're seeing at the moment.

Still isn't specific on which markets the JV will cover, doubt it's the whole of europe to the whole of Asia and Africa.

This I assume is the main business reason for BA to do it!

Interesting omission here: North America. I guess that would be a little too sensitive.

The way that's worded BA are basically borderline giving up on all routes to Asia, I would have assumed this would only cover short haul connections to Europe on BA and the Middle East on QR, not all of Asia and South Africa too....

So will flights be available for purchase before Oct 30 so long as travel is after Oct 30?

Perhaps BA will now start interlining bags onto QR again...
