Poundstretcher holiday

Does anybody remember these ?
Must be mid 1970's. They may have gone but my clock is still working.

I remember the Poundstretcher name but not the clock. How did you acquire it?

There's about as much ingrained dirt on that clock as a BA seat .....

This was the 80s fairly certain of that. Had a load of Poundstretcher bags at one point which they gave you if you booked a holiday. Never got a Braun Alarm Clock from them though, it was either a marketing gift or we never spent enough with them.

A friend was throwing it out sometime in the 1990's so I took it as a back-up for the digital alarm in case of a power failure. Perhaps it was a freebie for travel agents ?
Also, I will have you know that the 'dirt' is a protective film developed by NASA.

It's the first I've seen of 'Poundstretcher' but I'm sure it was an effective campaign at the time.

btw I heard that they've just ordered a new batch of alarm clocks for BA management.

Went on my first family holiday to Orlando with Poundstretcher in 1986. Most random moment was when we were picked out to be photographed for the next years brochure. Yes, we did end up in it. You can definitely see the Poundstretcher bags we had, carefully hidden were the TWA and Pan Am branded carry on bags!

I think you have forged this; Brit Air would never stoop that low!

Sorry to pollute FT with a "Mailicious" link but some may find the article evokes a feeling of warm nostalgia...

Talking of BA-linked package holidays, there's a company called Sovereign Holidays that I've seen advertising on the Tube in the last year or so.

Does anyone know whether that's a relation / descendant / successor? If so, what was the corporate history? And whatever happened to Enterprise Holidays?

I have now had to find a toothbrush and clean the clock. Just hope I can get it back into the bathroom without the wife knowing.

What surprised in the Daily Mail article was the photo of the brochure 'Spain '69', displaying both BEA's and Iberia's logos. It seems that they cooperated with the Spanish routes even back then. Did codeshares exist in the 60's?
