Check in time at FCO

We will be flying FCO-LHR-YYC in August on BA549 scheduled to depart FCO at 12:55 in CE/CW. How early are BA likely to open checkin at FCO for CE? I can't find this info on the BA website.

We will be travelling from Civittavechia Cruise Terminal on a Thursday morning and have booked a private transfer for 8.30am. I've read that the travel time should be around 50 minutes.

Do you think we should change the 8.30am pickup time to an earlier time or does that seem to be an ideal time? I don't know how much travel times can vary with traffic in Rome. I'm assuming checkin would be a 3 hours prior so if we arrive at FCO between 9.30am and 10am that should work out well.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a thread on here stating that checkin opens 2 hours before the flight in FCO - even if the desk is open for an earlier flight.

It's 3 hours before. At least it was last year, last time I got there very early.

Yes it's 3 hours. They wouldn't let us drop our bags off 3h 30mins before departure, making us wait until 3 hour prior. This was in May this year.

I flew FCO-LHR-YVR following a Civitavecchia private transfer in April.

We had the car pick us up at 9:00, and CE check-in was open when we arrived at the terminal. Other than a trek to security, and the comically misnamed "Fast Track" all else was perfectly smooth.

You won't be going into Rome and the motorway is decent so 08.30 seems more than generous - you'll have business class check-in and the new(ish) security seems to flow much better than the old systems.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll leave the time of the transfer booked at 8.30am.

I'd rather be at the airport early than stressing about delays so if we have to wait to check in our bags at least we know we're there.
