New route : LGW-CPT, from 24 November 2016
I'm not sure I have seen this mentioned before but while looking for reward flights to JNB I saw I was being offered a connection through CPT, but from LGW.
Looking further at ba.com I have discovered the following:
Outbound is BA2065 LGW 18.00 CPT 07:50*. Three times a week (Saturday, Monday, Thursday)
Return is BA2066 CPT 19.10 LGW 05:05* (Sunday, Tuesday, Friday).
Appears to start 24 November and seems to replace the third LHR seasonal service.
Currently good reward availability as well.

Seems like they loaded all the flights today as they all seem to have 2 seats in J, even in the holiday season. I would act quickly if you fancy some winter sunshine!
Don't forget the exEU award trick: if you leave exAMS, you pay more Avios but you save on taxes. For the Avios rich this might be interesting. Seems to be around £350 for two.
Cash prices aren't bad either at £1600 exAMS.

So it looks like they're pretty much dedicating a single 777 to this route. I'd have thought that they'd try and maximise aircraft utilisation by having a daylight flight one direction (especially given the lack of LGW conward connections, and assuming these flights will be a little cheaper than LHR).
I wonder if some more longhual LGW flights are on the cards. I can see maybe HKG and YVR working to provide extra lift at peak times.

Brilliant news. This is something I can see working well ex LGW as this route shouldn't need to rely too heavily on connections.
BA are taking longhaul in an interesting direction at LGW by duplication of some LHR routes. Is LAS staying at LGW or not ?
I could see a couple weekly SFO & LAX also working ex LGW as iv previously posted so who knows ......

Or the ex-JER trick, where the tax is much lower than ex-LGW, but the Avios add on is free!
