A Day in the Life of an Air Hostess
real tenuous BA link here but it exists! Hunting Clan Air Transport who merged to become British United Airlines who merged with Caledonian Airways and so obviously are actually BA.
I came across this stunning short documentary about flying in 1960 complete with contemporary attitudes to women and flying, some impressive shots of heathrow etc. Good to see that paying for drinks etc is not necessarily a new thing!

I love the pre flight briefing from the captain to the cabin crew:
"Now, any questions?"
"Yes Sir, how do you like your coffee?"
And interesting to see 'London Airport' had roof gardens...

Thanks for posting!
Amazing what cabin crew had to do in advance of the actual flight in those days.
Love the bit in this with the crew and their leisure time down route... "most crews spend their leisure time together, and some airlines provide them with a yacht to use". - it's a sailing dinghy in the clip rather than a yacht as I'd know it. Still made me chuckle.

I was at the aviation museum in East Fortune a few years ago and reading about what was involved for the crews doing one of the ultra-long-haul / round-the-world trips back in those days (or maybe more the 50s) was quite extraordinary. Glamorous, sexy, the lot!
Actually, I was a little surprised to hear "a price list for drinks"- what is this Ryanair...?!

I will not be present. I would, however, like to know where he is laid as I might feel like dancing one Saturday night.
Drinks were always charged for back then. Food never. I might add that the Economy food was better than some of the First Class slop served now. We used to do a sort of Beef Stroganoff that was simply delicious - so delicious in fact that I got the recipe and still cook it at home.
