Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. the guide to using ITA matrix in post #2 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

I think the fares underlying the Spain-Costa Rica/Mexico/Panama deal have just been removed from the fare tariff.

exDUB ILN4S4Z1 Sale Fare

Example prices for August 2016, all price with a LHR connection. Slightly lower prices may be found by taking the direct AA DUB-US flights:

JFK - €1,362 (~£1,044)
MIA - €1,415 (~£1,085)
ORD - €1,451 (~£1,112)
LAS - €1,530 (~£1,173)
LAX - €1,622 (~£1,255)
HNL - €1,593 (~£1,221) via LHR-JFK-PHX

Bear in mind that there is a BA DUB-LCY service which started in October 2014 and there is an early morning arrival in to LCY you can do a same day connection from DUB arriving at 0820 and connecting on to BA1 departing at 0945. Any booking made on BA1-4 will only now earn 140 TPs.

There is also a AY DUB-HEL service starting in March 2015 which you may be able to add in, so DUB-HEL-LHR/LCY-JFK- etc. DUB-HEL gets 40 TPs and the 80 TP rate would only apply to HEL-LHR as shorthaul+ is only exUK. Adding HEL may increase the price by £80-100 due to mileage restrictions.

Another alternative is DUB-MAD-LHR or DUB-LHR-MAD before doing the TATL. As there are more and more EI flights with BA codeshares now you could also do routings like DUB-AMS-LHR which would get you 60 TPs compared to DUB-LHR which would get you 40 TPs. There is no business cabin on EI shorthaul. DUB-MAN-LHR would also be possible, but this would get you 20+20 TPs so no more than DUB-LHR.

Travel from inbound transatlantic sector must commence no earlier than the first Sunday after departure of the outbound transatlantic sector.
This allows positioning for your inbound TATL prior to the Sunday. You can therefore set off from HNL on Friday night arriving in PHX on Saturday morning, do PHX-JFK during Saturday, have a night in NYC on Saturday night and then do your TATL on Sunday.

Travel from last stopover must commence no later than midnight 12 months after departure from fare origin.
Valid for travel commencing on/before 31 March 17
Stopovers not permitted on the fare component
An overnight connection of up to 24 hrs between flights is allowed though.

2 transfers allowed per region in each direction, so 2 in Europe and 2 in the US each way.
To HNL the optimal routing is something like DUB-HEL-LHR-XXX-LAX/PHX-HNL and return which gets you 1360 TPs. If you leave HEL out coming back then reduce by 80 TPs, and if you leave HEL out both out and back reduce to 1200 TPs. XXX can be any east coast city provided that you don't do JFK-LAX where you can only get 140 TPs, and XXX-LAX/PHX is on a two class > 2,000 mile flight. If you look at post 1 of this thread or this post there is a list of >2,000 mile flights.

AA vs BA flight numbers for TPs & avios:
- For two class domestic flights in the US you need to book under the AA flight number to get the domestic first TP (210/60). Booking under the BA codeshare will only get you business TPs (140/40) even though you will be in the same seats.
- For three class transcons (A321T) on the JFK-LAX and JFK-SFO routes it doesn't matter since you book in to the middle business cabin anyway, not the first cabin.
- For international flights it doesn't matter, it is 140/40 TPs whatever flight number you book under so AA or oneworld codeshare.
- Avios will always be more under a BA flight number, but not much. Avios under an AA flight is 125% miles flown, and under a BA codeshare is 150% of miles flown. Tier avios bonuses are the same under AA or BA.

Permitted
25 June through 22 August or
23 November through 30 November or
18 December through 04 January
on the outbound transatlantic sector.
Note that the travel dates refer to the first transatlantic sector which means your TATL, and it also means you can do DUB-LHR on the 22 November and then the LHR-JFK on 23 November.

Reservations For All Sectors Are Required At Least 14 Days Before Departure.
Tickets must be issued on/before 30 June 2016.

Are stopovers actually allowed on this fare? It would be ideal for me to collect the TPs in my new BA year, which starts Jan 8th. But I can't get it to price with DUB-LON on Jan 4, then continuing on (LON-CLT-LAX-OGG-LAX-CLT-LON-DUB) after my new BA year starts. Yeah, I might have to pay APD for this, but that would be worth it to me.

Perhaps the problem is just my poor skills at manipulating ITA Matrix's Multi-City search tool? I have DUB-LON as flight 1, then the rest of the out legs as Flights 2 thru 4, with a single return OGG to DUB with "LAX CLT LON" as my advanced routing codes because it won't let me add enough flights to list every leg separately. With this setup, ITA just reports "No flights found".

Note that I can get it to price on the "Round trip" tab as DUB to OGG with appropriate connection cities listed, but then I have to do all out legs before my new BA year. Or at least, I can't figure out how to force a stopover in LON with this view of things.

EDIT: Think I just figured out my problem. The trans-Atlantic outbound must be no later than Jan 4th. Not just the DUB-LON leg. So I need DUB-LON-CLT on or before Jan 4, and can do CLT-LAX-OGG-LAX-CLT-LON-DUB after Jan 8th. (I think.)

EDIT 2: Just realized I could look at the fare rules myself from pricing it up on the "Roundtrip Tab". Found the following:
Category 8: Stopover restrictions
ORIGINATING EUROPE -
UNLIMITED STOPOVERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION IN
EUROPE AT EUR 75.00 EACH.
CHILD/INFANT DISCOUNTS APPLY.
AND - UNLIMITED STOPOVERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION IN
THE UNITED STATES/CANADA/MEXICO AT EUR 600.00
EACH.
CHILD/INFANT DISCOUNTS APPLY.
. So EUR 600 to have a stopover in the US. Ouch!

No stopovers on the fare. See my post. This is typical of exDUB sale fares.

What does "fare component" mean when they say "no stopovers on the fare component"? Is that the TATL flight? Or something else?

Also, my search is now showing "Iberia (IB) ILN8S4C1" on the fare rules & restrictions page rather than your ILN4S4Z1. Not sure there's a big difference here, or if its the same rules and restrictions just under Iberia rather than BA?

A return DUB-HNL is typically two fare components, one for the outbound and one for the inbound. These fares are combinable so you could get ILN4S4Z1 on the outbound and ILN8S4C1 for the inbound.
